2019 Abrigo Giovanni Barolo RaveraNebbiolo more |
3/22/2024 - aajder wrote: 89 pointsLovely color. The nose shows aromas of dried red fruits, flowers, minerals, tobacco and a hint of alpine herbs. This is medium full bodied on the palate with very good concentration and real class. The medium plus length finish features plenty of tannins and a mineral element. A classic, linear interpretation that will need a bit more time. |

1/7/2024 - danda wrote: 90 pointsNice, smooth , elegant Barolo. Texture and structure more like a serious Langhe Nebbiolo. Reminds me of viettis Langhe perhaps. Soft fruit, very good but i would drink this rather young. Some complexity with baking spices and cinnamon. But more pinot like Barolo. Really accessible for such a young Barolo. Balanced yet you can feel ravera cru. I dont mind woodtaste but this might be a bit much... Will try the 16 Vintage in 1-2 yrs. Drink and enjoy. 89-90 ish p |

5/6/2023 - Guillmallette Likes this wine: 90 pointsNot the most complex Barolo but pretty impressive for a Barolo this age. Fruit taste, easy to drink and you need less than an hour of opening before the wine is ready to be enjoyed. |

3/23/2024 - oakville72 Likes this wine: 90 pointsMedium color for a Barolo. Classic Barolo nose of violets and raspberry. Wood is not apparent. Tart entry with expected acidity and tannins. Will the fruit survive until the acids and tannins resolve? Maybe I've been too impatient by drinking my last bottle in 2024. |

10/6/2022 - jeanclaude Likes this wine: 91 pointsDefinitely needs decanting time if you are planning on getting the most out of this wine at this young age. Had a glass upon opening. Great color. Nice nose of dark berries, touch of tar leather etc. Good fruit on entry expands nicely. Mid strength of density that leads to pretty good tannin punch at rear palate. Then I put in refrigerator for a few days. Brought out and let come to room temp uncorked for two hours. Incrementally better. Drank over another hour. Smoother, rounder tannins mellowed. Delicious. |

9/24/2022 - Jessie and Max Likes this wine: 89 pointsClass: Climate Change "Winners" (Capital Wine School (via Zoom), Washington, DC): Tasted blind as part of class. I really like the nose on this one. It's vibrant and cheery; candied apple, black cherry, maybe some caramel from near-neutral oak. But I was surprised to hear it was Barolo! Once I was told, I got some leather, though that's probably the power of suggestion. That is, I figure, why it was included in this class on |

You get a few moments of fruit with each sip before the tannins close in on your palate, making it a bit difficult to evaluate. Overall I'd say there is a good fruit density, almost sweet. No wood presence thankfully. Firm tannic structure suggests it will age well. If there is any concern it would be a very slightly dried or stewed fruit note, but I felt that most early on and not at all later. Whether my palate had acclimated, I'd initially imagined it, or it dissipated with air, I cannot be certain. Overall this seems like a really solid buy at the WTSO price, and I might consider more. |

1/12/2022 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 92 pointsRetail $32. 100% Barbera. It would be fair to say that while I am far from an expert on Barbera d'Alba, I have had my fair share of the wine from the region. And this wine has to slot in near the best of those that I have tried. Medium color in the glass with an enchanting nose of fresh red berry fruit, wet rock, hints of vanilla, and a splash of black pepper. The palate bumps it up a notch with an intense tartness, followed by a wave of luscious fruit, and then a lengthy finish. Holy cow, this is good, just short of a Whoa. |

12/29/2017 - Eriklainen wrote: NRSee Luigi Baudana 2013 for comparison. Smooth, typical nebbiolo, approachable initially and then closes up again. Had this with a few wines and I interpret it as a sign of aging potential and need for decanting. Later on the wine opened up again and started showing dark berries/plums/cherries and lovely tannins. Damn near as good as the Baudana. |

10/1/2010 - KevinMc wrote: NRMy comments might seem at odds with my previous rating of 90, but I'll explain. I think this is a well made wine. It has a nice nose, very full palate, excellent finish... It is balanced and complex... but I don't like it. I simply don't like the flavour. Perhaps it is just too old world for me, but I find it very austere, dusty and lacking fruit. There is a great deal of minerality here, but the whole thing is too...serious. Right now, I find I'm more into fruit, and that is what I find this wine lacking in. I think many people will love this, but it's just not my thing right now. |
