Inky dark purple; rich, fragrant mature fruit nose--some blackberry, maybe some blueberry, more; layers of mature black fruit flavors, very good mouthfeel; good finish. Brought Left Bank Bdx to mind but a bit more earthy. Delicious--and the best GE red wine value I've tasted. Shared with a half dozen other wine aficionados around the table who agreed that it was an outstanding example of what GE can do these days. After trying more from this producer recently, I'd say Chelti is among the best in GE these days. My GE wine comments reflect tasting 40-50 recently over about a month both at home and in GE. Quality, age, price: Outstanding. |

Intense nose, of mandarin peel and ripe oranges, as if mixed with heavy cream. However, palate was lean and simple, although with a slight hint of the orange peels, otherwise little else. Overpromised, underdelivered |

The wine offers deep, dark purple color and a nose of fresh-picked blue/blackberry notes. Quite round, lush and full yet without the sugar and high alcohol content of a heavily extracted New World wine. While I expected something akin to zinfandel, I would put this varietal more in the neighborhood of a Barbera. I understand that Saperavi wines from Georgia have 50 plus years of aging potential, that seems like a moot point with this $12 wine which can be enjoyed quite young. |

It comes from a relatively unfamiliar (to me) wine growing region (the Kakheti region of Georgia) and is made from a varietal (Saperavi) that I was not familiar with. I bought a few bottles and put them in my cellar. I opened my first bottle tonight. This is really a lovely wine, with a beautiful ruby color in the glass and long legs. The nose was fruity and slightly okay, with smoke and dark chocolate aromas. The palate is full and opens with dark fruit, finishing with good grip from soft tannins. Overall this is an excellent wine and a good bargain for the price. I actually prefer it over many of the more mundane and usual offerings. If you see this wine in the wine shop, don't be afraid to give it a try. |
