3/21/2024 - aagrawal wrote: 90 pointsDecanted off 2oz fine sediment. Light ruby, youthful color for nebbiolo; aromatic, red cherry, slightly floral; palate is light bodied, medium-plus acidity, high youthful tannin, high alcohol (14%) is a bit showy in a classic year, red fruited and youthful; medium length finish. Nice balance, but perhaps a bit too youthful and in an awkward phase. Will give this bottle some air, and my other bottles some more time. 90-91 |

12/25/2023 - Gustav Borg Likes this wine: 93 points2023-12-25 - Fantastic. Felt young still. Rustic at first. Strong sense of terrioir and purity. Some leaves and earth. Gritty acids. Then it settled on a bed of tannins and there came the fruit. Thick cherries. Very traditional style but it was very much its own. Raw and refined at the same time. Completely unadorned sense of terroir that was just damned good. |

2/18/2024 - Diderot wrote: 83 pointsThis is a pathetic joke of a wine. At last, the wine industry (and the critics who enable and abet it) needs to step up and stop fudging and mincing words. This wine is worth about $11.99 on its best day. It is to Barolo what the Yugo is to automobiles. While the wine is not defective, its virtues are so attenuated that it is simply not worth drinking - least of all at the ridiculous retail price being assessed. With a flavor of stewed prunes, cinnamon, and no discernible tannins, this sad red wine might appeal to people who have no experience with Barolo or Barbaresco and who are just looking for some red wine to drink. I would never buy it again. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2/18/2024 - Philolesen Likes this wine: 93 pointsIn a sweet spot right now. Cherries, spices, liquorice, dried cranberries, and tar. Did not decant this bottle as it didn't seemed to be needed upon opening it. It was incredible fragrant from the get go. Dusty tannins. Good length. |

2/16/2024 - studleytrey Likes this wine: 88 pointsGrabbed a case of these with a house wine for pizza/pasta in mind, and I think it should do the job. Smells like cherry, orange, black pepper, smoke, and black tea. Medium body, acid and finish, with flavors of cherry, plum, lemon, and orange. A little light, so better for simpler or lighter Italian style fare. In other words, would work better with a chicken or fish in red sauce than a Bolognese. Ready to drink now. 87-88 |

2/4/2024 - valecnik wrote: 88 pointsThe enamel-stripping tannins have subsided, so I'll take that as a win. Intensely fruity, bursting with bright raspberry. It's almost TOO fruity, really, like that one aspect of its personality has been amped to the Nth degree. Feels a bit out of balance as a result. Nice mineral underpinning though. |

1/29/2024 - aagrawal wrote: 92 pointsStood up for weeks and decanted off 1oz fine sediment. Light ruby-garnet, good color for nebbiolo at this age; aromatic, red fruited, cherry, some sandalwood, some mint; palate is light bodied, slightly rustic tannins, red fruited, 14% alcohol, still fairly primary fruit; finish is medium length. A very nice Barolo at a good youthful maturity now, still with another decade of growth in front of it. The winemaker had previously made wine for Bartolo Mascarello, and the style similarity may be there, but this is a bit more rustic and it doesn't have the balance and elegance of a 2011 Bartolo Mascarello tasted very recently. 92 |

1/22/2024 - sburtt Likes this wine: 94 pointsLast bottle from a pack of 6. Having tried 2001-2004-2006-2008, I must admit this 2006 is the best vintage. So classic. The nose is now in a mature phase with notes of anice and licorice, the palate is fresh and elegant, overall a great wine, very elegant and exactly what you expect from a barolo of this age |

12/23/2023 - kenv Likes this wine: 94 pointsDinner at Salil's (Albany, NY): [Double-decanted for 2 hours around 3pm. Tasted starting around 7pm.] Lovely nose of smoke, roses, forest floor. In the mouth, full, balanced, elegant with light red fruits and some mulch. Long cherry finish. Drinking quite well now, which seems typical of 2008s. Should drink well for at least another decade. An incredible value in traditional Barolo. |

Showing very well today, youthful and energetic but open for business, with marvellous Amarena cherry fruit and orange zest, spices and a hint of liquorice; clear and bright style, excellent balance and freshness, elegant weight (13.5% ABV) and structure with a lovely charge of sandy tannins, outstanding length. Classic Monforte Barolo. Bravo. |
