7/25/2016 - studleytrey Likes this wine: 91 pointsPretty consistent w/ my first review. This wine is a killer QPR, and is still drinking great. I imagine it's got a few more years in it at least, though this was sadly my last bottle. |

A touch of fresh herbs kept it interesting, and this bottle disappeared in record time - kept me going back for another sip. |

4/13/2013 - studleytrey Likes this wine: 90 pointsConsistent w/ previous note except that I think the oak aromas were simply more evident on the pop until the wine aerated a bit, as I noticed it this time in the other glasses as well. I seem to have enjoyed the last bottle a bit more than this time around, but still nice. Worked well w/ dark chocolate cake for dessert this time around. |

3/26/2013 - studleytrey Likes this wine: 91 pointsDeep ruby color. Blue and black fruits galore on the nose, along with a pretty violet floral component. (On the PnP first whiff, this made me a little nervous, as it had a nose of big, jammy fruit and a good amount of oak--blind I would have guessed Aussie shiraz, but this was out of a cabernet glass, and I realized after testing in a more moderately shaped glass, it made a big difference.) Sweet blueberry, blackberry, black raspberry, and strawberry on the attack, which finishes with bright acidity and a little mineral note. There's a hint of oak, but completely integrated. This is a bit forward and certainly crowd-pleasing, but the medium body and bright acidity keep this fresh and enjoyable. Medium+ finish. I really enjoyed it. Pair with braised short ribs or bbq chicken. Balsamic marinated meats would be killer too. And for dessert, dark chocolate nonpareils followed with a sip of this give the effect of, but better than, raspberry flavored chocolates. Yum. |

4/18/2011 - Vinacull wrote: 85 pointsP&P, color as previously noted, no sign of bricking. Bouquet smells of dark fruit mildly oxidized, leather and meaty notes that were not apparent when last tasted a couple years ago. On the palate the fruit tastes baked and somewhat oxidized, along with leather and some earthiness. Strangely, the acid is medium-plus despite obvious signs of age, with spikes of brightness on the sides of the tongue in tart cherry flavors in the finish. Moderate tannins are fully integrated. This was well-cellared, but has not held up well in that the fruit has lost its vibrancy and it is considerably less elegant now. If you have any, drink up, and quickly. |

12/17/2010 - DC_EO wrote: 89 pointsTerrific everyday drinker. Not incredibly complex, but had terrific dark red fruit (more raspberry than cherry or plum) and pepper on the nose and palate. It really opened up after about 30 minutes, smoothing the tannic structure. Sarah loved it. |

6/28/2010 - Vinacull wrote: 85 pointsAerate to decanter. A lovely medium cherry red color with some dark hues, medium body. Bouquet is disjointed, with fairly intense aroma of cherries, a floral quality, alcohol vapor, and cinnamon oak. On the palate this is very young, with firm tart cherries and blackberries, as well as oak. The finish is acidic and oaky, and the tannins are astringent. It seems this has changed little if any since first try 7 months ago. Will wait 18-24 months before next. |

12/12/2009 - Vinacull wrote: 88 pointsNot able to take detailed notes due to Holiday guest. Most notably this wine is in a youthful, primary stage right now, showing some lovely real dark-fruited Languedoc Syrah characteristics, but little if any floral. Tight and firm in the mouth, and showing more oak than it should, this appears to need at least 1-2 years to come together. However the quality of the fruit is excellent, and being well made, this has upside potential. Need to buy a few more bottles to follow. At a time when everything else is going up, the price is only a dollar more than the '04, which is great. |
