A fun wine. Fermentation in the bottle, cloudy with bubbles at first… lemon cherry jam on the nose, sour sparkling blueberry on the palate.. bitter tannin finishing. Once the bubbles and the structure settled after 2 hours in the glass.. it became less carbonated on the structure and more like a red wine juice. The finishing was light.

Popped and poured, the wine was refermenting in the bottle. I don't mind a little of fizz in a light red, but this literally exploding upon opening, leaving half the wine on the table cloth. Tasted the other half after 3 days, was ok, tasting like cranberry juice. Way overpriced and overhyped.

4/13/2024 - DominikMueller Does not like this wine: NR

Golden yellow colour tending towards old gold and orange. Cloudy. Unusual, intense odour. Not exactly flattering. Somewhat yellow-fruity, apple, mirabelle plum, but clearly on the crumbly side. Dried orange peel. Ginger. Unfortunately, horse stables and wet hay cover up the fruit, which is not fresh anyway. Even with air, this doesn't really go away.

Tart tannins on the palate, a third of the wine was fermented on the skins, but with a surprisingly lean body. After the first loud impression, there is a lack of substance. Bitter flavour, citrus peel again. Some lemon and grapefruit, sour but also watery. The finish is not too long. Unfortunately, it doesn't come across as pure.

What can I say about a wine like this without being disrespectful to the work of the winemakers? Having already tasted a red wine from the estate a year ago and having given it a positive review (2015 Joschuari), I was very open to this one. I was keen to find positive aspects, but in the end I have to say that after more than an hour the rest of the bottle ended up in the sink. I find it hard to explain the huge discrepancy. I'm happy with a natural approach, but the end result has to be a high-quality product. It shouldn't be a product of chance. In my opinion, this wine should have been labelled as faulty and should not have been allowed onto the market.

Unique natural Rose crafted in a similar vibe as my beloved Le Puy Rose Marie or Cornelissen’s Susucaru. Made by a cult natural wine estate located in a small village of Oggau. Farmed from field blend of red and white varietals, 2/3 direct pressed, 1/3 crushed and macerated, matured in large used oak barrels. Pale salmon color, purple hue. Medium+ intensity aroma, requires some time for funky barnyard balance out notes of candied cherries, strawberries, blood orange, undergrowth, herbs. Medium light body, juicy structure, medium+ intensity well integrated acidity, funky barnyardish red berry flavours, blood orange rind, pleasant touch of pink grapefruit bitterness and touch of tannic bite.

Made by a cult natural wine estate located in a small village of Oggau. Each cuvee has its own iconic label designs of different faces representing the personality & terroir of each wine made, centered around the idea of a family of different generations. A blend of Zweigelt & Blaufränkisch, aged in various sized barrels on yeast for 12 months, no sulphur added, not fined or filtrated. Medium+ purple colour, violet hue. Medium+ intensity perfumed aroma of blueberries, violets, blackberries, lavender, hint of leather, barnyard and tar. Medium body, slightly frothy, full of vibrant and fresh black fruit flavours intermingled with animalistic barn notes, high but pleasantly soft acidity, low tannic structure. Very unique and undiscovered style. Will see how it will evolve in few more years.

Short note - on the nose its like a high quality bordeaux, but lower alcohol and cooler climate, dark plums, cherries, sigar box and tobacco, medicinal, blueberries, crowberries, long finish, very well balanced, deep complexity, high concebtration, a bit volatile acidity that adds to the complexity, oustanding quality, 94p

There is a little bit of spritz and edging to VA. That said, a beautiful wine with dank fruit and a really lifting structure. Nice acids, some earthy notes underneath very glou wrapping.

Probably the first bottle of Gut Oggau wines we enjoyed at a Zoom Tasting Stephanie and Eduard to be empty.
Definitely far away from your standard Rose, it needed quite some are (for me) to develop into this interesting melange of Peaches, strawberries and herbs.
I would enjoy this over the first 3-5 years.

Probably the best of the three Gut Oggau wines we enjoyed at a Zoom Tasting Stephanie and Eduard.
The Joschuari has wonderful notes of cherries, wild strawberries and slight orange zest.
The palate ist very pure and soft, compared to a conventional Blaufränkisch (a little due to the partly pressed juice without long maceration). But due to the extra freshness, I would guess this does not hinder any long development. (a decade+)

Moderate amber in the glass, cloudy af. Nose is clean, showing ripe peach, dried apricot, white florals. Medium-bodied, quite safe orange. Zippy acidity, moderate finish. Not much depth. Overpriced for what it is. The hype is not real.

Demeter certified biodynamic vineyard. Blaufrankisch and Roesler grapes are about 35 years old. Hand picked and destemed Fermentation takes place in used 500, 1000 and 1500-liter barrels. The wine goes through elevage in 500-liter barrels for about 8 months, with no batonnage. The wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with zero addition of sulfur.

Opaque and deep purple colour. On the nose rose petals and raspberry with a very faint whiff of VA that blows off very quickly. The palate it show its freshness and bright appearance accompanied with adequate acidity and soft tannins. Surprisingly this field blend has a lot to offer for that it is only 12%. It is at a good drinking stage right now and should continue to be for 2-3 years to come.

With the extremely low rating of a fellow taster I decided to bump up mine to keep a more even average rating which better represents the wine.

Color of purple-ish dark pomegranate. The nose consists of liquor-soaked strawberries, pomegranate, and blood orange (plus minor reductive funk / pressed flower petal). In the mouth, the attack is sugar-soaked sour cherry (there is slight residual sugar), balanced by very high citrusy/edgy acidity that dominates the middle, finishes with notes and depth of cranberry juice and iron. Excellent energy and concentration - the wine seamlessly grows big in the mouth keeping the symmetrical round “shape”.

Does this producer worth the hype? I was not able to tell - while the quality is certainly there, there are many other infamous natural wine producers who deliver similar quality, and also this wine somewhat reminds of a serious rose/pale-red lambrusco which is typically much better value. But again, quality is certainly there.
