It shows and opaque crimson robe, with moderately intense aromas of blackberries, vanilla and cocoa. The wine is full-bodied and fresh on the palate, with big sweet tannins and fairly well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.6%). The flavors mirror the nose and the middle palate is intact. Unfortunately, the finish is truncated and concludes with a whiff of heat (despite opening and presenting the wine at cellar temperature, warming up to 60-65 degrees Fahrenheit while on the tasting table). This is certainly not a bad wine, but it is equally certain that this will not ever be anything special. Drink now-2017. |

This wine was very pleasurable in the mouth and on the tongue, no harshness usually evident with this variety or similar intense wines. Almost like a cooling drink of fresh mineral-laden water with a firm infusion of berry fruit and spice. Would be easy to drink the whole bottle quickly. Tested from a preservation machine. Attractive nose of soft pillowy floral and perfumey volatiles with a dose of cooling spices and dark fruit. In the mouth nicely balanced dark ripe berry-cherry fruit supported by pleasant slightly metallic acidity. No real warmth despite medium-high alcohol. Finish consistently and pleasantly fades from mid palate. 14.1% abv. Dryish. Body medium, acid medium, tannin medium. Tested at USD 27. |
