Great Cab Franc, though I opened too early. Needs another 2 to 3 yrs.

Excellent. I suppose I got pretty lucky with this one: terrific cork, fill, color, etc. That said, it was best served with one full hour of aeration in wide-bottom decanter. As good as the wine showed on first pour, it continued to develop complexity and length through the final sip some three hours later. Traditional in styling, with a lot going and, and it seems, enough structure to drink at this level for another decade. This was served to good friends/winegrowers in Priocca, which makes me doubly glad it showed as well as it did. highly recommended.

Clear medium ruby.
Light nose
Soft opening, Plush, ripe dark fruit; moderate tannin and heat peeks through leaving a bit of a bitter finish, but altogether a pleasant wine.

Standing Room Only with Doug and John and Monticello sales reps. Excellent straw color. Luscious aroma. Good vanilla bean. Very nice. Mouth has good fruit. Fairly deep and rich. Varietal. Not too oaky. 5-11-15-7: 88/100.

With Doug, John and Monticello sales representatives. Excellent nose. Like a French burgundy initially. Butter; matchstick. Flavor is rich, full. Very nice wine. Long. 5-12-16-7: 90/100.

Color: Dark Purple
Nose: Heavy olive
Taste: PnP with still slight coiled olive that turns into a rich Truffle and Fig flavor; extremely balanced and well aged
Comp’s: Did not expect this to taste this good right now, but it’s delicious on its own!

Shows a bit unripe on the nose.
Some green smokey notes.
A bit thin on the palate with some red fruit and cassis coming through.
Finish is tart but not bad.

Served to me double-blind at Tasting Group. The wine pours a beautiful garnet with a deep but translucent core and significant rim variation; from magenta to orange to watery. There appears to be loads of sediment. Medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with powerful aromas of desiccated red and black fruits: cassis, brambles, plum, pipe tobacco, some green pepper, old leather, damp forrest, mushrooms and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium(+?) acid. Confirming the notes on the notes. The finish is long and delicious. Alcohol is medium.

I was pretty confident that this was a Bordeaux-variety/blend however, I was between two minds as to whether this was left-bank Bordeaux or Napa Valley as I believe the lines truly begin to blur with age. Ultimately, I called St. Estèphe from a classified growth and a warmer vintage like 1985 or 1990. I settled on 1990. Shit. I should have known it was Napa…and as more time went on, the fruit did seem to get a little more heady. Anyway, I don’t hate my call but I should have not rushed my conclusion and considered it a little longer. As for the wine itself, this bottle has excellent provenance and was really quite lovely at 37 years old. Plenty left in the tank. There’s good color and energy with no worry at all about the fruit hanging on. Alcohol is modest at 12.5% ABV. Well-cellared examples should be enjoyed now but will drink very well over the next 5-10 years, easy.

Lovely rendition of Oak Knoll Cab Franc. Pretty interplay of fruit and oak. Leads with charred tobacco notes, black currant, cracked black pepper, dandelion greens and coconut — which I attributed to American oak though they seem to have used exclusively French. Palate is delicious but rife with weighty tannin and moderate acids that suggest it could use a year or 4.

Very nice Napa Meritage wine. Dense blackberry pastry, mixed with black currant, menthol, bay leaf, and plenty of rich cedar and coffee from abundant oaking. Quite fruit-forward, but not overdone by any means and well balanced by the earthier herbal qualities. Just a slight over abundance of the oak detracts from a lovely bouquet. Palate is massive— as may be expected — but well balanced showing plentiful but soft tannin and moderate acid. Will certainly appease fans of bombastic Napa cabs but still retains an air of elegance and subtlety.

Started off as an oak monster, but thankfully tamed some. Ripe stone fruit and creamy melon notes, but not flabby. This is a big Chardonnay, but the fruit is high quality.

Very dark red. Astonishing depth of fruit in the nose is incredible. Perfect. In the mouth, incredibly rich, concentrated grapey, but not overly so. Tremendous length. Wonderful. 5–12–18–8: 93/100. Jammy, chewy, incredible concentration of fruit. Still tannic, but more than enough fruit.
