Very delicious and fresh; yet I'm rating it a point lower than the last vintage I tasted (2018) as this was a bit more natty/funky, vibrant but less focused, compared to the super fresh and precise (but also clean and dialed-in) 2018. This 2020 showed lots of slightly funky strawberry, raspberry etc with a bit of salty umami and beautiful, gentle tannins. I like that the high acid is pretty well-integrated, not too puckery, but the fermentation is a little wild, giving it a faint kombucha character. My first instinct when blind tasting was some very natty Pinot Noir, and I couldn't figure out the region whatsoever.

Delicate lemon and fresh baguette on the nose, and the palate balances tree fruit (green apple aplenty) with citrus, maybe some very light florals and watermelon. The finish has some kind of funky flavor to it, can’t quite put my finger on it, and a slight pecorino cheese note emerges on the nose over time, along with acetone. I’m not sure whether I’d call these “off notes,” but they’re definitely iffy for some, although I enjoyed. That being said, the acidity is pronounced and quite pleasant and fruity, it’s the acidity of crispy green apples. This would go so well with a croque-monsieur.

Stewed strawberry and blueberry scents, layered but tight overall, smooth through the mouth, hints of raspberry, plum and bitter melon, feels spicy on the end, distinctive and wide, needs more time, the tannin holds tough

Deep ruby color. Med plus aromas of black cherry, red plum, black berry, blueberry, cedar, toast, violet, leather, some VA, and a bit of orange peel and coffee. Really good balance of fruits, floral notes and earthiness. Fruits are just ripe. Though color is young there’s some tertiary notes. Dry, med plus body, high acid, grainy, med(+) tannins, long finish. Good now but think it has a space for improvement over time. Thought a darker Pinot but this is Bierzo Tinto. Maybe grainy, slightly stalky tannin quality is the key - not really common for PN, but this might be just the producer’s style due to high whole cluster percentage. This got less interesting over time in a glass losing fresh fruits and gaining stemmy spiciness. There is a bit of bitterness on the palate probably from the stem. Fantastic value. 90+

This second tasting in a mere 3 weeks illustrates the mystery of wine. What I first experienced as a good but unexceptional wine became a quite exhilarating tasting experience. On the nose and palate emerged most unusual and primal aromas and flavors. No idea what lanolin smells and tastes like but somehow that fits the bill. Loved this bottle and agree it has potential for major longevity. Will order more and track over coming decade

Off a restaurant wine list with no idea how this was stored - temp was quite cold when first poured

Decent when first opened with nice acidity

Got more and more reticent with more air with a very short and abrupt finish

Suspect this has been sitting upright in a fridge for a few years

Grande qualité, mais pas à mon goût.
Impression de boire du whisky.
Une pointe d'amertume dans la longueur me semble indésirée.

Has evolved significantly over the past year. Drinking nicely now with more dried fruit notes and less pulpy fruit. 13.5% abv.

No formal notes taken. Part of an "off the beaten track of Spain" wine night with my group. This was my favorite, but it may have been because this wine was the closest to wines that I am familiar with. The others were oddball grapes from less than mainstream growing areas.

Very heavy on the barnyard when opened... Air reduced the impact to balance it out, overall good after the time open.

Medium yellow-gold color. Aromas of green apples and lemon peel. Moderate acidity that made this a great wine to accompany appetizers. It was less aromatic and floral overall than the last time that I tried it. Still it was a crowd pleaser.

First go with this wine. Evokes a Chablis and dry Riesling vibe with unique aromas/flavors of passion fruit and guava with plenty of minerality and acid cut. Gains weight and concentration over several hours. I suspect this will age well given the stuffing, balance and 12.5 ABV. Promising first experience.

Lingonberry, watermelon, tea, earth. Some development, but fruit is a bit thin. Still a nice tannic grip on the end. Not sure this is for me.

A good wine.

The nose is most expressive part of the wine: white flowers, wax, and touch of cider. Mouth is almost Chardonnay like but more ripe gala apple more ripe pear lemon in pasty. Gets watery textured at the end but a long finish.

This one really needed to open up. Decant. Grapefruit, exotic fruits, toasted almonds, earthy minerals. Not oaky like a Rioja, but still a nice touch. A good quality wine, although not entirely to my personal taste

I am getting more and more exited by the mencia grape. This example is truly great. Herbal notes of thyme, olives, flowers, Red berries, lively acidity, very good balance and a lasting finish. It will probably be better with 3-5 years, but it is a banger right now.

---------------------------

Upon opening, it tastes like an angry baby... At the restaurant, it continues its tantrums without any frills.

...but, it improves!

With time, air, and food, more and more qualities emerge from behind that tingling fruit that's been walled up by oak planks. Dense, rich, balanced, and long. So intense it sparkles! Dark berries, leaf spices, pipe tobacco, compote, and a fine vein of spearmint. The ruggedly rough tannins smooth out nicely and do wonders with the meat!

This is still very young and will likely need another 15-20 years, at least...

I wish we had more bottles. It has potential for 95+.

None of the "funny", for me unpleasant by-taste I have come to associate with this grape variety.
Will be more open to buying Godello wines in the future.

This radiant wine comes from a unique, tiny limestone-soiled parcel of vines. With a production of only 80 cases, we have only a few bottles of this beauty, and they will go fast. The value proposition here is crazy!

"The Ultreia bottling that called my attention from the moment the wines were poured is the 2021 Ultreia Paluezas. I've only tasted a couple of vintages of this before, but Raúl Pérez remembers that it has called my attention every time. The distinct feature here is that the plot has limestone soils, which are very rare in Bierzo, and the majority of the place is on slate soils. So, this has the special finesse and elegance of the limestone, and it's perfumed and elegant and has a velvety palate with very fine, chalky tannins. This is now more Burgundian than Rhône, from a cool year with very perfumed reds. This is from only 0.4 hectares or so, and it even has a small part with Palomino; he produces one 225-liter barrel and a 500-liter one. Drink Date: 2023 - 2035."

It sure what the deal is with the drinking window on CT is - this wine is holding g up just fine. A full bodied white, with pronounced notes of citrus, bergamot, dandelion greens, thyme, and a slight touch of white pepper. Not your run of the mill Albariño. Good stuff and can probably be aged further.
