60% Touriga, 13% Tinta Cao, 13% Alvarelhao, 14% Souzau. Delicious California Port blend made in the traditional Port style with Portuguese varietals. Yet another testament to the winemaking talents of Scott Harvey.

Great centrepiece (in 3 L) for a steakhouse dinner. Brambly fruit, earth, a touch of barnyard, and of course a great food wine, being from Scott.

2nd Annual 7 Deadly Zins tasting…well, 10 (My place, parramatta, sydney): Black cherry, sweet spice, vanilla, chocolate and slight green notes on the nose. In the mouth the wine is juicy with black cherry over plum, non-intrusive alcohol warmth, rich with chewy tannins, teensy bit out of whack, there is a certain awkwardness, but nice none the less.

2nd Annual 7 Deadly Zins tasting…well, 10 (My place, parramatta, sydney): Aromas of toast, red and black plums, biscuit, charcuterie, slight sweet spice and very light herbaceous notes. In the mouth the wine has flavours of juicy plum and cherry, more spice - almost peppery - here, quite concentrated with fine slight talc like tannins. Some alcohol warmth on the long finish and quite savoury notes as well. nice.

Excellent wine that we enjoyed with great friends and tapas at a great little restaurant in Iowa City. This one didn't have quite the depth the last bottle did (see previous note), less spice box and dried pope tobacco. If you still have this, drink it. It's not going to get better, and has probably started fading. Scott Harvey FTW! 91 pts.

Ripe cherry, red licorice, (Twizzler), & jam. Herbal with dried eucalyptus, dominating, maybe a touch of cola; this is delicious right now! A library steal from Scott, makes me want to save a couple bottles of his Mountain Selection series each year for 7-8 years. Not the light and vibrant, youthful wine it once was within the first couple of years of its release. More complex, layered, more viscous, and even a touch port-like. Impressive. 91 pts.

Scott Harvey's a rockstar with Barbera, period. Had two bottles, but bought 4 more after having this one (so now have 5!). Great acidity/fruit balance, and just delicious. More detailed notes next time. Older world style here, don't think you'd be guessing Cali on this one. 90+ pts.

Still tastes a little young, but even for that this is some seriously good stuff at an amazing price.
It's definitely "old-world-style" soft and subtle. Spice on the nose, spice on the tongue, along with lotsa dark fruit.
Killed it with a medium-rare petite sirloin, pasta salad, and broccoli.
I've got another bottle of this that I'll probably hang on to for a while longer.

Slightly translucent crimson. Raspberry jam, spices, and oak nose. Light to medium bodied, dirty cranberries, pepper, tangy cherries, tannins with a touch of bitterness, leather, and a brambly medium finish. Fairly complex yet easy drinking.

Our reaction to this wine was stated previously by Costacasa below. Exhibited a beautiful nose on a very warm Spring evening in Palm Springs with spaghetti and tomato sauce. Glad I have a few bottles left to enjoy.

Directly compared this one with a pinot I happened to have open. No comparison. The 07 sh zin is going down beautifully right now. See previous notes, but this time I got a hint of chocolate to go with the woodsmoke and fresh leather. Still has some fruit though.

Cherry and blueberry fruit, but there's much more. Some very pretty dried herbs and eucalyptus here make this a special wine. A bit of a dustiness too, and it makes you think this wine has more age than it does. Drinking beautifully, this is the best Mtn. Select Syrah vintage I've tasted so far. An absolute steal, this would hold up against wines 2-3 times its price. Decant for an hour or three and be rewarded. 90 pts.

Dusty, nutty nose. Most impressive was the velvety smooth mid-palate raspberry and bitter cherry flavor that wrapped around the tongue and lingered without appreciable heat.

PnVnD. Fairly light ruby in color and very transparent. There was surprisingly little sediment after 7 years in the bottle. Lots of fine legs with red cherry, spice, and a bit of floral in the somewhat muted nose. Light in body. Clean with good acid. Reminds me a lot of McFadden's Old Vine Zin. Both are great food wines.

Enjoyed in a Riedel Vinum Chianti Classico glass at 62F.

I have a glass pitcher that will easily hold two bottles of wine. This Barbera is the type of wine that I Vinturi into the pitcher. It is gulpable. I just sat it in the middle of the table last night and the 3 wine drinkers poured at will until it was gone. A sad moment, so I opened another. It's an everyday red but better. Get yourself some.

Aromas of black raspberry, mocha, black cherry, licorice and sweet spices ... Palate was also layered with blackberry, spiced-black cherry, black pepper, and anise. After an hour or so the wine became smoother and seemed silky while the wine changed its fruit/spice profile to cassis, blackberry, white pepper, a little coffee, and some gentle spice on the finish. I'd have to say I was quite happy with this bottle of Harvey Syrah, quite different from the past vintage I had, but still a delight for the senses.

PnP this is clearly in good shape. Aromas are plum and spice, but the palate evokes something fresher, like strawberries with thyme. It's ever so slightly oxidized but not in a bad way. Tannins are totally resolved. Acid is still lively.

Wow! This one is in its sweet spot right now. For me, the combination of age and fruit is just excellent right now. The tart black fruit (black cherry, red currant) is perfectly balanced with the aged flavors of fresh road tar, light woodsmoke, and baseball glove leather. Just wonderful.

Decanted for one hour. Garnet in color, it is medium body and has a soft nose with just a touch of heat. Balanced and not overly complex, this everyday sipper is nevertheless luscious with a lingering finish of cedar and dark fruit. Nice merlot-forward blend.
