Fresh citrus and white fruit, but a little watery and underpowered - which allowed the cat pee to creep in and dominate after a while.

4/22/2024 - Callum's Corkers Likes this wine: 90 points

Wine Soc’ UK, approx £8.50

N…..some lemon rind, very little else.

C….light straw, looks L-Medium body

T……first impression is a fresh interesting wine, lively with good intensity of flavour; ripe nectarines, even a bit of peaches and cream; some near-grippy white tannins; a mineral profile; a Foodie style wine; no length, flavours fade early; a well-made but simple wine.

QPR?……costs £8.50 and feels worth that. Will buy the 2022 again.

4/21/2024 - fipile Does not like this wine: 87 points

clear gold in the glass, nose on ripe exotic fruits (guava, melon, grapefruit).
On the palate, the ripeness of the fruit overwhelms the saline touch of santorini's assyrtiko character. there is good supporting acidity though
Very NZ sauvignon blanc in style, not what I am looking for in a Santorini Assyrtiko - but some people may like it.

Elegant and floral, with crunchy pomegranate and raspberry - the gentlest lick of tannins gave it just the right amount of poise.

2020 The Wine Society Gewurztraminer The Society's Exhibition

Alsace Gewürztraminer more

4/19/2024 - Callum's Corkers Likes this wine: 92 points

92-93 score.

Contracted producer: Hugel.
Cork seal. Chilled.
No decant.

N….not much, oddly. (What, no lychee??? Inauspicious start!)

C….light gold, medium to heavy body

T…..back label says its Dry - it isn’t properly Dry, it is Medium Dry; ripe fruit and a decent mineral profile; mild intensity of flavours, they are up front impressive but there’s no real length. Style is near-commercial, well-made and nice enough but it’s no Grand Cru (but neither are they asking GCru prices). Acid is lively enough, but more balancing than actually ‘lively’. Flavours were almonds, lychee (finally, it wasn’t anywhere to be found on the Nose), rose petal, pink grapefruit, ripe small orange apple.

Probably hasn’t the power/complexity to massively reward long cellaring.

QPR?…..costs £16.50, feels worth around that. Would buy again.

2018 The Wine Society Gigondas The Society's Exhibition

Red Rhone Blend more

4/19/2024 - Callum's Corkers wrote: 89 points

Contracted producer: Louis Barruol, Saint Cosme Estate.

Decanted 30 mins including some swirling. Wine Soc recommended 1 hr.

Cepage: mostly Grenache.

N….lacks any charm, a whiff of alc, some fruit. Boring.

C….middle red, a hint of age on the edge though not even beginnings of brick

T…..pretty Dry on the scale, feels still immature even though 7 yrs old, some inky fruit concentration; enough ripe fruit and enough depth, some nice gentle tannins, alc is a bit warm. Some earthy minerals and savoury character, a few spices, a touch of orange peel/bitter choc-mocha. Seems more a Foodie style than a happy glugger.

Feels like cellaring will be rewarded with a better wine.

QPR?…..costs £19.00, feels worth £15-18.00, I will buy again in reported good vintages.

4/9/2024 - Callum's Corkers Likes this wine: 93 points

Decanted 2 hrs, with some swirling. Flat wide bottom ship’s decanter.

Bought Wine Soc’ £17.50 March 2024

N….whiff of alc, some dusty wood, most intense impression of the fruit (ripe black/red)

C….deep red, no significant signs of age at 7 yrs

T….long decant might be relevant to the soft round mouthfeel, near-silky; alc is warm, probably the only thing currently an obstacle to full balance; some nice savoury flavour, agreeable floury tannins, rich fruit but enough acid too. Long enough. For my own preference it could have been drier - a minor quibble though.

QPR?…..a happy bargain, costs around £18 yet feels like a £30 wine. Comes off the shelf at 7 yrs after vintage too, so, again, not too shabby QPR.

2015 The Wine Society The Society's 150th Anniversary Pauillac Château Batailley

Red Bordeaux Blend more

4/5/2024 - theraredram wrote: 68 points

Can’t quite make my mind up about this one. The nose has ample cassis, blueberry, honeysuckle, earth, nutmeg and some stereotypical Pauillac pencil. The palate has much the same with a herbal and mint note that somewhat reminds me of Fisherman’s Friends.
I’m a little surprised by how soft this is. There’s not a lot of tannin and the acidity is quite low which leaves the fruit tasting a little stewed. The finish is short lived but leaves a cloying texture which for some reason reminds me of rillettes.
I think this is just fine, if a little boring given the lack of “ooomph”. To be honest I think I’d rather just have the standard Batailley, although my notes are strikingly similar to the 2015 vintage.
It’s fine, glad it was just a half.

A unique blend to celebrate our 150th Anniversary, made by the Gonnet family of the great Châteauneuf domaine of Font de

freshness, lifting the aroma and soft, round and satisfying finish.

Red Bordeaux Blend more

4/3/2024 - Robbie Ruadh wrote: NR

We couldn’t release a range of specially labelled fine wines to celebrate our 150th Anniversary without including a Pauillac, the king
of Bordeaux’s Médoc communes, and Batailley seemed like the obvious place to go. With deep crimson colour and a classic nose
of cassis, graphite and vanilla, this is a classy Pauillac with impressive depth and concentration. Ample fruit density and gravelly
tannins complete the picture. An hour in a decanter before drinking is recommended for this wine as this will allow it to unfurl
gradually.

An exclusive blend by Ciabot Berton made from this excellent vintage, specifically for our 150th celebration. With grapes from the
historic hillside vineyards of La Morra including a proportion from Rocchettevino which is at 400m above sea level, this wine is
superbly perfumed with cherry and red apple, violets and wood spice, balanced by the firm but elegant tannins. The long and
complex finish really mark this wine as very special.

This is a unique blend for our 150th Anniversary, representing a selection of wines taken from five top estates: Boussières, La

Gigondas with gorgeous, sweet fruit, purity and round, fine structure.

4/3/2024 - Robbie Ruadh wrote: NR

We have wroked with the Despagne family for many years and were delighted when they agreed to blend a wine for our 150th
Anniversary celebrations, especially as the 2016 vintage in Bordeaux was amongst the best of the last 30 years. This is perfect for
drinking now, although it has the capacity to age for several more years. Made from vines bordering Pomerol, the unique blend
combines 80% merlot with 20% cabernet franc for freshness. Aged for 18 months, 50% was matured in French oak barrels and the
balance in stainless steel. It reveals a bouquet of ripe damsons and a touch of lavender. On the palate it is fresh and vibrant, with
suave tannins and plush merlot-fruit texture.

An excellent opportunity to try a hunter valley semillon with some age already on it. I haven’t previously had one so didn’t know exactly what to expect…

As promised nutty and toasty aromas of baked apples. Palate was all acid though, lime cordial, especially at first as I hadn’t chilled it enough it turns out. Properly chilled the acid was markedly less severe, more on the racy end of the spectrum with those lime notes. Excellently intense finish too! I suspect it’s still got a long life ahead with the intensity and finish.
