4/14/2024 - deviousrhesus Likes this wine: NRReally drinking great. Popped and poured, but developed really well over the course of a meal. Would probably benefit from a brief decant. Can hold for a few more years. |

8/20/2023 - deviousrhesus Likes this wine: NRLots of very pretty primary fruit on popping, which sadly blows off very quickly. Develops into shallow secondaries. Lots of tannin and good acidity, so I’d say sit on it and see what happens. It seems hotter than the label specifies from smell and feel. |

3/31/2023 - deviousrhesus Likes this wine: 95 pointsThe community note to drink by 2024 is way off. While it’s drinking wonderfully, there is enough structure for a much longer haul. 10 years? So hard to quantify these things, but there is so much primary fruit and pleasant tannins that there is certainly no rush. Really rich and unctuous, currants and leather, touch of chocolate and cedar. Smells like Oakville, and certainly glad I have three more bottles. |

5/14/2022 - deviousrhesus wrote: NRHad a glass via coravin a month back, and as a pop-and-pour this is flat and uninteresting. Tonight, opened the rest and gave it a decently aggressive decant, and was able to coax some fruit and secondaries from it - But nothing of substance to stand up to the significant heat. Still quite tannic, so I’m just going with “closed phase,” and will revisit in the future. 10 bottles to go! |

6/13/2020 - deviousrhesus Likes this wine: NRPop and pour. Nice tannins and acidity, no rush to open these. Plums, tobacco leaf, dill (American oak?), vanilla. |

3/8/2020 - deviousrhesus Likes this wine: NRStill a little tannin holding it all together, but start drinking whatever you have. Rosemary/camphor, chocolate, wet clay, cherry. Easy drinking. |

7/30/2019 - deviousrhesus Does not like this wine: NRReductive and highly oxidized tasting. Not a huge surprise considering that I bought off the shelf of an oriental market and let sit in my cellar for years! |

12/22/2018 - deviousrhesus Likes this wine: 95 pointsMy first foray into LBV, and I’m really a fan. Why bother with tawny?! Just remarkable tannic grip, and a really nice improvement over a couple of days. Age worthy for a fraction of the price of vintage, and totally approachable now - Which is the whole concept, isn’t it? I’d probably decant for a spell if serving at a dinner party. Glad to have a few more bottles to come back to over the years! |

11/25/2018 - deviousrhesus wrote: NRHas Scout’s changed, or have I? I remember sucking down prior vintages no problem, but this 2013 seems cloyingly sweet. I have a 2012 and 2014 kicking around the cellar, so maybe a taste test is in order? Wish I could go further back in the catalogue! |

10/4/2018 - deviousrhesus Does not like this wine: 79 pointsHad this multiple times, and I just don’t like it. Inky black color and good mouth feel (high alcohol and a little RS?), but there is an unpleasant almost quinine bitterness and incredibly shy nose. Blackberry syrup and vanilla? Maybe some eucalyptus? |

9/8/2018 - deviousrhesus Likes this wine: 97 pointsHad the Grenache last night, and thought it was world class. The Syrah, even better. Both have just the most awesome, tongue tingling acidity. The Syrah smells of smoke, thyme, chocolate, plum, baking spices, blood (hence the name? How was this profile achieved?). I can’t fathom this drinking any better, but I think it still has some shelf life left. Why risk it though? Superb. Consumed with spit roasted tenderloin sliced on rosemary bread. |

9/3/2018 - deviousrhesus Likes this wine: 87 pointsBased on my prior note and price point, I squirreled a few bottles away as cellar defenders. Popped and poured tonight, and the wine is extremely soft and easy drinking. Red fruits, chocolate, cedar, hay, dill. Still a nice tannic grip, but feeling a touch flabby. I’ll share with friend over the next year or two. |

7/27/2018 - deviousrhesus Likes this wine: 92 pointsDayglow yellow, super viscous feeling in the mouth. Thought there were tartaric crystals in the bottle, but they’re a tightly bunched brown sediment. Marzipan and overripe pineapple. Guava. Maybe a hair of petrol. Pretty hot, agree with below note that it could use a little more acid. Drink up in the next couple. |

7/26/2018 - deviousrhesus Likes this wine: 95 pointsDrank from a magnum I picked up at the winery a couple years back. Absolutely great. Mineral and great balance of acidity. I wouldn't hold much longer, it's drinking at absolute peak. Maybe 750's past peak then? |
