Might be coming into a nice stage with a few more bottles left to consume. At this point the 2017 seems to be a better vintage.

Totally surprised us, as the winery tasting in 2015 was less than terrific. Nevertheless, held on to it as it is an unusual and historic wine from Catalina Island, and finally opened it about 3 weeks ago. It blew us away as it's now well-aged at age 8. Shows lots of Burgundian influence, but with a richness of black fruit, touches of sage and cardamom, and a mouthfull of dusty red soil, adding complexity and interest to the juice. Amazingly terrific and fascinating, since it's unlike any other Pinot Noir that we've had in the past. Definitely a delicious standalone, and highly recommended if you have the patience to wait. If not, buy 2 of them if you can source them, as they are usually winery-only and sell out quickly upon release. Decant for at least 1 hour. Again, loved it!

Uncorked two hours before drinking. Boy did this bottle shine. Incredible nose of a woodsy/cranberry with structured tannins and a nice finish.
Very interesting story behind this vineyard. Sure produced a great pinot.

Medium gold color. Buttery and oak notes with nice tropical fruit. A bit of acidity adds a citrus tang.

Light, a bit briny, bright fruit. Not characteristic of a Zinfandel at all. nice But not good QPR

Very tight after an hour open, loosened up after another hour of decant. Not a big fruit bomb as some zins can be but cherries dominate the taste with no real finish. Suppose this is more a nostalgia purchase from my younger years on Catalina. Can find better zins at half the price.

We’ve had two other vintages of this and loved it. This one is terrible! Thin, tart, and none of the mineral and brine that the other vintages head. Ended up cooking risotto with it. Not a good QPR!

Pale garnet color - very light for a Zinfandel. Light cherry aromas. Medium minus acid. Soft, silky tannins. Medium body. Juicy strawberry and cherry flavors accented by cinnamon on a medium finish.

Very light - in color and body. It does, however, pack quite a tart dark cherry punch! Crushed roses, cinnamon stick, bramble, dried leaves, and perhaps even just a touch of whole cluster. A very interesting wine that requires a second evaluation.

Balance and grace. Delightful mouth feel. Light tobacco, dark cherry, touch of strawberry rhubarb, hint of cooked orange bell pepper at the finish along with zucchini skin. A gentle touch of clove, nutmeg.

This was a gift, can't speak for qpr. It was a bit flabby, not super interesting. There's a cool story behind it, but it didn't deliver.

Good wine but not great. For the money I was expecting more. It was mellow fruity and rich. But not complex with multiple notes.

Decanted 1:20 ahead. Medium garnet color, trending orange at the edge. Nice but faint nose of cranberry, tart cherry, and a floral/piney note. Light bodied on the palate, with firm, bright acidity and a touch of oak flavor. Finishes well with light grip and very low tenants. You would not think that this was a Zinfandel; you might think it was Grenache. Interesting.

Blind tasted. Dark cherry in color with medium concentration. Viscosity is high. On the nose there floral and perfume notes, with candy & blueberries. Tart acidity predominates the palate, balanced by some spice and heat. Tastes young and ripe. Medium(-) body. Oak is minimal. Some minerality to this. 87-88. After being open about an hour this softened and became more balanced.

Dark ruby color; intense, lifted, aromatic, dried currant, saline, iodine, dried salt nose; unusual, intense, salty dried plum, lavender bath salt, dried blueberry palate with good acidity; could use 3 years of bottle age; medium-plus finish (from cuttings of Zin taken from Santa Cruz Island)

Decanted 1 hr. ahead. Medium-dark ruby color. Very nice nose of spices and earth, with vanilla, allspice, mushroomy notes. Medium body with moderate acidity and good spicy flavors. Fruit is faint with this wine in both nose and mouth; just a few ripe cherry hints. Spices take the lead, which is an excellent thing about this wine. Finishes quickly with low grip and very low tannins. One must discard most presumptions about Zinfandel in drinking this wine, because it's more like a merlot in spicy character, relatively soft texture, and easy finish. It's definitely well-made, while QPR is, well, difficult. Don't ask.

Medium ruby color. Spicy notes lead on the nose, ahead of light berry and and anise on the palate. This is Zin in a pinot noir style, if you can imagine that. Finishes with sandalwood notes ahead of grippy acids and light tannins. This is a unique take on Zinfandel, as it's grown in a cool climate. Well-made and not very typical. Interesting and not like most Zins.
