Quite amazing in that there is clearly a roasted quality but the acidity is enlivening and there are no telltale porty notes. I'd never tasted this before and must say that I was shocked at the balance and depth of this wine given my experience with other '03 Chateauneufs. Drink now or drink later; its generosity does not suggest that it will go through closed, sullen phases. |

Subdued nose of intense ripe dark fruits. After an hour, at first entry into the mouth, the wine is also subdued, once you get to mid palate and beyond, this wine explodes with intense candied fruit, with acids, tannin and alcohol all combining to give a heady blast of licorice, provencal herbs, iodine and meat. To me, not quite as good as the 2001 Pegau Reservee I had last night. I have a bunch more so I will age these awhile longer to see if they hit the sweet spot for my taste. |

4/29/2011 - Christoffer78 wrote: 98 pointsI have been following this wine since 2006 and I have to say the 2003 Cuvée Réservée still keeps amazing me over and over again. This is one amazing wine. Tonight the nose is full of perfect garrigue mixed with lovely Grenache kirsch, tobacco and wet saddle leather. It is astonishing and to me very elegant, although some signs of age is starting to appear... Yet the palate has thrilling tannins at the back end revitalising this meticulous effort, but also telling us this wine has a few years to go in the cellar before reaching its peak. I love this wine. Highly recommended. |

2/18/2011 - beatles wrote: 94 pointsGreat when just opened - and tasted at 13.5 degrees - very provencal, very Pegau, full bodied, young, adorable. Now, at 16 degrees, the alcohol (14 procent? I think not!) is showing more, still a great wine, but there is certainly a delicate balance - like dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde vis a vis the temperature and time with air. Very open, but will keep for many years. Dinner at home. |
