2015 Felton Road Pinot Noir Block 3

Central Otago more

5/5/2022 - JxE Likes this wine: 93 points

Superb. Decanted 1hr and was still opening up after 2hrs.
Alluring nose of red fruit, cherries but with earthiness just peeping through. Overall still youthful but with a serious, complex roundness. Hardly any discolouration. Strawberry and cherry come through on the palate, along with slight menthol.
This would keep another 5+. I would try again in another 3 ... if i had any more

2017 Terra dei Celti Barolo Pezole

Nebbiolo more

5/1/2022 - JxE Likes this wine: 91 points

A great little example of Piedmont without showing off too much. This hit my preferred flavour profile with cherry, dark fruit along with cedar, tobacco within a pleasantly mid-weight wine.
Label states 14.5% but this was not detected - I would've guessed a 13.5%.
At this price I would drink and drink again. A full Barolo showcase? No. But a delightfully enjoyable nebbiolo for a fraction of the price.

2011 Craggy Range Sophia

Gimblett Gravels Red Bordeaux Blend more

A typically polished and well balanced example from Craggy Range. At 11 years in the bottle this is drinking fine however I can't see much more flavour development from this point. A sound bordeaux blend and well made, but nothing remarkable.
I didn't pay full price for this case so am satisfied with value for money. If I had paid $100+ a bottle I would feel differently
The wine looks crimson colored. There is light sediment in the bottle.

2015 Felton Road Pinot Noir Bannockburn

more

Consistently punches above its weight. Drinking well with some years still left. Cherry and red fruit closely followed by slight forest floor to maintain an ideally balanced PN.
Velvet smooth per the usual FR touch

2015 Penfolds Shiraz St. Henri

South Australia more

Textbook Penfolds balance. Fruit still very fresh, would keep another 10years at least under screwcap. Full and silky mouth feel. Had not yet developed savoury characteristics but they are there.

2016 Roberto Sarotto Barbaresco Riserva

Nebbiolo more

1/9/2022 - JxE Likes this wine: 91 points

Has all the desired elements of a barbaresco; immediate red fruit followed up with roses, cigar box and underlying hints of stewed fruit add to complexity. It's light with ample acidity but still with a balanced tannic grip on the finish. At this price a great example of barbaresco and one to reach for more frequently.
Decanted 2.5 hours
