Quite translucent and somewhat developed garnet color with a hint of deposit that lends the wine a hazy overall appearance for a moment, before dropping down to the bottom of the glass. The nose is quite light, restrained and savory, but also enjoyably fragrant and complex with aromas of smoke, sour cherries, some tar, a little bit of dusty, sandy soil, light floral tones of dried roses and a hint of fresh cranberry. The wine is medium-bodied, dry and very firm with noticeably grippy and assertive tannic structure and somewhat developed, savory flavors of sour cherries, red forest fruits, some autumnal forest tones, a little bit of salt-cured beef, a crunchy hint of cranberry and a touch of tar. The wine feels very lean and structured with its high acidity and tightly-knit tannic structure. The finish is long, complex and slightly evolved with noticeable tannic grip and dry, acid-driven flavors of sour cherries, crunchy cranberries, tart lingonberries, some smoky tones, a little bit of forest floor, light umami tones of dry-cured beef, a hint of tarred leather and a touch of tangy salinity.

A lovely, complex and still very fresh and lively Barolo that is surprisingly assertive and tannic even at the age of 20 years and showing relatively little development for its age. The wine really doesn't feel like it's young anymore, but in a Nebbiolo tasting of wines from 2007 to 1995, this was still remarkably youthful in style, performing much better than a good handful of younger wines. A beautiful, classically built Nebbiolo that has lots of years ahead before its apogee. Will keep for decades more.

Yearly truffle dinner at the great Italian restaurant “La Vecchia Signora” in Stockholm.
Newly harvested white truffles flown in straight from Alba was the base in all of the six courses served.
This year the winery Oddero was present with their wines.
Great finish to a very nice dinner.
Fun to make acquaintance with Oddero, a new producer in my book.
Nose with melons, litchi, elderberries, grapefruit and a hint of nice and spicy petroleum.
Palate is light, lifted with sweet and honey tones, red ripe sweet grapefruit and elderberries.
Very nice & fresh, a good cleanser, I liked this.

This is a complet different story than the same wine from 2009 in the glass next to this.
So much more refined and complex.
Nose is clean and perfumed, with roses, red flowers, fine raspberry fruit, fine Piemonte acetone and minerals.
Very nice nose.
Palate is also much cooler and very much cleaner, red berries, riper raspberries and cherries.
Good 2006 acidity present, good lenght and depth, a nice Brunate indeed.

Nose is flaunty, big, with sweet fruits, sweet licorice and alcohol.
Very similar to the Bussia Vigna Mondoca Riserva I just had.
Palate is equally kind of pumped up, big and flaunty, sweet and almost overripe fruits, with sweet licorice and alcohol.
This lacks acidity for balance, and also suffers from too much alcohol and ripeness of fruit.
Went okay with the food, but not my style of Barolo.

Nose with warm and ripe red cherries and plums, sweet licorice, glue and alcohol.
Palate warm and somewhat towards stewed red fruits, creamy and riche.
Lacking a bit of balance, finesse and acidity, most likely due to the warm vintage.
Still, quite nice to drink now, and went good with the food.

This is a step up in complexity from the entry level served before this.
Nose is very fine and intriguing.
Green and herbal, stemmy, showing mint and notes of balsamico and fine spice mix.
Palate shows a semi mature Barolo, clean, lots of nice red berries present, touch of tar and leather, mushrooms, fine acidity, medium bodied with medium length, pleasant in the mouth.
This will continue to develop well for another 5 – 10 years, at least.

Nose with lovely roses, herbs, Seville orange, orange peels, Christmas spices, anise, gillyflowers, tar and some typical Barolo acetone.
Quite intriguing and interesting.
Palate shows lighter than expected, sour cherries, high acidity (typical for the vintage), some stable and hay notes, touch of herbs and tar, creamy tannins, delicious and on the light side of the Barolo spectra.
I enjoyed this allot, despite perhaps not being the most complex Barolo I have had .

Nose with licorice, orange peel, tar, raspberries and cherries and some truffles (unless nose was truicket by the 2+kg’s of fresh white Alba truffles in the room?)
Unfortunately a bit of alcohol heat shines thru, but not overwhelmingly so.
Palate shows red berries, some green tones and herbs with high and clean acidity.
Again, a touch of higher alcohol levels present (without being hot as in a third world wine).
Overall impression is a decent entry level Barolo, that is still very young and somewhat a bit alcoholic at this stage.
Room for improvement, despite perhaps a bit thin on the fruit for any real long term cellaring?

The nose of the 2013 Langhe Nebbiolo has a very fine and dusty mineral profile over ripe and sweet lovely raspberries.
A bit shy & airy, but very fine, like a tiny ballet dancer.
The palate is also very transparent and clean, light on its feet, creamy red raspberries with a peppery finish and good cidty.
Very fine Langhe Neb!

Barolos and Barbarescos with some age (Osteria Langhe, Chicago IL): Nose: The nose is perfumed and balanced with red cherries, roasted herbs, violets, licorice, raspberries, some balsamico notes, tar, and leather. There is good depth with a ripeness to the nose.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity and high tannins. The structure still has some youth to it, but with refinement. There is a maturity to the feel with roasted herbs, red cherries, violets, balsamico, licorice, raspberries, and tar.

Overall: This is drinking beautifully right now. It is well balanced and perfumed while showing some of the more redder and riper fruits that the vintage yielded.

Piedmont Trip, Day 5- Oddero, Vajra, Aldo Conterno (Barolo, Piemont, Italy): Nose: The nose is just stunning and ethereal with violets, wild flowers, rose petals, truffles, spice tones, raspberries, dark red cherries, earth notes, tobacco, and crushed rocks. There is a ton of depth to the nose with everything favoring the upper register as well.

Taste: Full bodied with high acidity and high tannins. The structure is extremely youthful and somewhat punishing. Beneath that structure does lie a lot of class with wild flowers, violets, truffles, raspberries, dark red cherries, crushed rocks, and tobacco notes.

Overall: This is certainly in need of a good amount of rest. With that said, there is a ton to like here already and it feels like this can kick into yet another gear in time.

Lovely perfume. More developed and savory than the younger versions served ahead of this. Not effusive but comes together very well. Hint of broth. Elegant but with power, and with a more savory progression than the 04 and 06. Excellent balance. This should be the same wine as the '99 Luigi Oddero and Fratelli Oddero Vigna Rionda
