11/7/2023 - Mss0904 Likes this wine: 89 pointsBlack pepper, boysenberry and rhubarb, with slight finish of vanilla on the nose. Thick and syrupy, with slight acidity at initial taste. Blackberries and raisins are next. Didn’t change much after being open for a hour, other than the blackberries became more prominent and the finish was shorter. |

10/28/2023 - valecnik Likes this wine: 90 pointsThe question with Cypher wines is always, will there be adequate balance against the massive alcohol level and stewed fruit? Often there is, thanks to vibrant acid. That's somewhat the case here, but the 14.9% ABV just doesn't seem that aggressive in the first place. What you do get, though, are boatloads of oak and vanilla. They make for a smoky, decadent, sumptuous wine, if that's your thing. It's not a style I appreciate much these days, but drinking one every other year can be fun. Cheers to you, Cypher. You do what you do and you do it well. |

9/5/2022 - dirk21 Likes this wine: 90 pointsThis is heresy! Who in California makes a tannat? Christian Tietje, of course. It is absolutely delicious. Approachable , with dark fruits, chocolate, maybe a little spice and smokiness. It is unique and such a treat to savor. |

5/18/2022 - dirk21 Likes this wine: 92 pointsWith grass fed tri-tip steak. Indeed a slayer, an eye opener. Based on the Cabernet, the Petit Verdot, and the Malbec I sort of expected a lower-key Bordeaux vibe. I should have known better from Christopher at Anarchy (formerly at Cypher). The aroma and flavor leaps from the glass and parties in your mouth. Fruit and spice on the nose. On the palate, juicy red and dark berries with overtones of Asian spice. Solid berry core. Vibrant fruit core surrounded by sparkling cinnamon, nutmeg, and possibly anise with a hint of oak. Satisfying, food friendly acidity and a long clean finish. |

1/27/2022 - valecnik Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis is one of those instances where Cypher just gets it right. Their wines are always big, 14.8% ABV in this case, but this one is very, very bright, luminous even, with crackling acidity. Brooding dark grapes such as Petit Sirah, Tannat, and Petit Verdot weigh in with their blue and purple fruit flavors, augmented by plenty of smoky oak and vanilla. Comes across as significantly lighter on its feet than it might otherwise be, and proves to be a decadent treat without being overwhelming. |
