3/1/2022 - WineGoblin Does not like this wine: 83 pointsIt's been years since I opened one of these and the wine is still way too tannic, simple, and even a little sour. Maybe ready in 2030 but I won't bother waiting - time to sell. |

5/18/2018 - WineGoblin Likes this wine: 90 pointsI've drank 4.5 out of 6 bottles that I acquired on auction with a very reputable company. I've noted a fair amount of bottle variation but not drastic. This is definitely wine that is past its peak, but I still enjoy it and I still find it notably Opus for a domestic. Would I buy it again? No. Am I happy to have had the opportunity to drink it? Yes. Can it be improved? Yes. Just add about 1 parts 10-15 year old left bank Bordeaux to 2 parts Opus and it's unique and readily holds up well to a nice filet mignon. Don't let an old wine that you think is weak cause you to cast it aside! Give it some life with something else you like, experiment a little. Have fun! |

1/15/2017 - WineGoblin Likes this wine: 95 pointsAs my score indicates, I really like this wine. It has finesse, though not like a French first growth. But for a WA / OR wine, it is polished. No sharp edges at all, tannin in balance with acid in balance with fruit. So many different kinds of fruit flavors at play here! And oak but it is so subtle it could be missed. Savory and sweet. A reasonably good finish that lasts maybe thirty seconds. Drinks below its alcohol content and well above its weight class. I could cellar this for another ten years but it is delicious and perhaps right where it should be consumed for the best experience right now. If I had another bottle I'd keep it for five more years and see. |

1970 Château PavieSt. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more |
1/15/2017 - WineGoblin Does not like this wine: 82 pointsShared at birthday party - guest of honor born in 1970 - and this bottle was just thin and tired. Very little fruit left and no structure, more like koolaide. Mixed it with a 2010 Soos Creek Palisade which is a Merlot-dominated Columbia Valley wine and that made a wine worth drinking! Some of the old dungeon flavor coming through a glass with fruit and structure - a much better way to drink this. But not at all worth two hundred dollars and nothing like the younger Pavies which I think are fabulous. |

9/28/2016 - WineGoblin Likes this wine: 97 pointsI love this wine. Maybe more than just about anything I've ever had. Even using a Coravin, with only glass decanting, this wine is magical. Ethereal nose with fabulous basket of notes including blueberry, graphite, leather, dark berries, and very subtle oak. This, to me, is what a first growth should smell like. The taste matched the aromas and lingered wonderfully. I do not think that further cellaring is required but I am happy that I have additional bottles and can try it again in five and ten years. It should age very gracefully. Still plenty of muscle to hold on to life for decades. |

1/3/2017 - WineGoblin Likes this wine: 93 pointsI really enjoyed drinking this wine. Really acidic and citrus flavored. Little to no oak at all. Pucker was great. Flavors not very complex but not single noted, either. Some umami though very, very light. I feel that there is something particular to my palette that is not necessarily a crowd pleaser. I'm looking to find another six or twelve bottles of this. Great drinking without food but I could see pairing this with Thai or other types of Asian food as well as any seafood. |

1/3/2017 - WineGoblin wrote: 84 pointsNot bad, but pretty straightforward WA fruity and oaky red. Expected notes for the winery (of which I am a solid fan) and blend, but in my opinion not worth the cost. Can get same quality for $15 - $20 less. |

2015 Domaine Capitain-Gagnerot Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Les Gueulottes BlancChardonnay more |
12/29/2016 - WineGoblin Likes this wine: 84 pointsRight down the middle of the road of what I expect from a reasonably low priced young white Burgundy. Bought this as a sample of the 2015 vintage - this was my first - and a low risk price entry to try. Not disappointed. Met expectations. Much more citrus than butter, in fact I don't recall any oak. More lemon than melon or pear, and nicely crisp. I'd definitely drink it again. |

3/20/2016 - WineGoblin Likes this wine: 95 pointsBought three bottles at winery, dined at Brix that evening and brought one in to share. Just as delicious as at the winery tasting earlier in the day, this is a supple, succulent and relatively light (for the blend) wine that paired very nicely with short ribs and a NY steak. So easy to drink even this early. I wouldn't expect it to age more than 10-15 years due to the relative lack of tannin but I'm sure it will go 5-10 and keep singing. |

12/15/2015 - WineGoblin Likes this wine: 86 pointsI like the wine but I don't love it. I have another bottle and I do look forward to drinking it in the future but can't say I'm excited about it, just happy to drink it again and see how it compares to the first bottle and enjoy it for what it is, which is an okay-to-pretty-good Margaux (at least for my palette). It's moderately enjoyable, probably a good deal better with food (I drank the bottle mostly without) and perhaps will let the second bottle have a lot more air time. I agree with Parker's description of the wine and I think the WE review got it wrong - this has aged quickly and I'll definitely drink the second bottle in 2016. |

1999 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de LalandePauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more |
11/24/2015 - WineGoblin Likes this wine: 93 pointsWow, I love this. First time trying this vintage, I believe the only other vintage I've had is the 1988. It's both what I expect from a solid Pauillac producer and yet also a wildly pleasant surprise. Who would expect 37% Merlot in a 1999 vintage from an old Bordeaux chateau? Each sip is a journey: at first it seems to be pretty much what you would expect from this chateau and at 16 years of age; it's after you've downed the wine that a surprise develops...it's very different from anything I've had on my palate in a long time, and hard to describe. Kind of a roasted marshmallow almond cherry vanilla finish that goes and goes. It keeps me wanting to refill my glass and take it slow. I love this and am so happy that I have more bottles to tap. I'd drink it over the next three years. |
