2005 Costers del Ros Priorat L'obila

Grenache Blend, Grenache more

5/21/2011 - dpavelka wrote: NR

Info: An outstanding example of the wines of Priorat, L’Obila defines opulence. This remarkable blend of Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Carignan is smooth and well balanced. The wine retains a perfect harmony of ripe red Grenache fruit, robust flavors of Cabernet, and the mature finish of Carignan. The flavors of chocolate, berries and licorice are delivered with a velvety mouth feel and a long smooth finish. Only 6,000 bottles are produced annually, and only 2,500 are offered in the U.S.

Drinkable on day 1 with a little aeration, but on 2nd day was like a "house wine" had lost its flavor and any malbec fruit. Much better out there for this price point.

Not the Malbec taste I expected, even from a $10 bottle. Very disappointed in Catena on this one. A little flat on the palette..
For the same price point, O. Fournier's Urban Uco Malbec is much better. Second day was much better, more complex & Malbec like, but still only enough to go from 82 to 85..

After having other Torrontes from Salta, this one is best..hands down..gives you that Torrontes flavor without a "too dried out" finish..
