8/20/2020 - Cappie wrote: NROpened this and thought this smells *exactly* like a Kientzler Osterberg.....I wish I knew the vineyard percentages on this (anybody know?), but I suspect quite a bit of it comes from the environs near the winery, but what do I know? |

2014 Kientzler Riesling OsterbergAlsace Grand Cru more |
1/10/2017 - Cappie Likes this wine: NROne of my favorite Alsace producers. On the higher acid side of Alsace. Lemon/lime palate on this Osterberg is similar to the 2010 I had a few years ago - love the zippiness, so easy to drink, but very serious and ageable. The leanness creates a somewhat unique Alsace Riesling - this is more Trimbach than Trimbach is. Sad these are so hard to come by in the US, would love to try the 2014 Geisberg when it's released later this year. |

12/5/2016 - Cappie wrote: NRIs this Syrah? I remember the warm 09 vintage of this very well and this is much bigger than that. Not certain I love this, but it might be an excellent new-world wine drinker's intro to Beaujolais. |

4/21/2015 - Cappie wrote: NRAs Burgundy goes this was hard as nails even after a long decant. Needs a lot more time. Clearly a largely proportioned wine, I'd even go as far to say rich compared to some of the 05s I've had. |

9/16/2014 - Cappie wrote: NRVery Cote de Beaune. Lean, but also balanced with a fairly expansive finish. A little tobacco and spice on the nose. Laurence, the winemaker, told me this is best drunk young and I am not going to argue with her. An excellent example of Alsatian Pinot Noir. |

8/17/2014 - Cappie wrote: NRReal Gevrey, animal nose. A bit of basement brett. Rounded and ripe. Rustic in a good way. The last glass was better than the first. The nose on this wine is it's most redeeming characteristic. I bought this from a bargain bin closeout at about half price, so this was a shockingly good value. |

7/24/2014 - Cappie wrote: NRDrinkable, but definitely on the road to oxidation. Darker yellow than it should be. Reminded me of aged Alsatian riesling, which isn't a bad thing necessarily, but not what you should be getting from Premier Cru Chablis. Real shame given how fantastically this wine showed a couple of years ago. |

7/18/2014 - Cappie wrote: NRLight in color and in weight, but beautiful and seemless. Almost Auslese-esque. The balance of acidity and sweetness made this dangerously easy to drink. I don't think this was ever meant to be a vintage for keeping for the really long haul, but at over 30 years of age it is still excellent and will be for a number of years. |

5/23/2014 - Cappie wrote: NRThe Pinor Noir really comes through. Definitely mushroom-like and a touch of truffle on the nose. It doesn't have the chalky character as champagne rose, but still a wine with complexity and nuance. Worth seeking out. |

1/22/2014 - Cappie wrote: NRSilky texture. Violets and a touch of funk on the nose. Has that low sulfur wine fruit juice appeal - like drinking the best cranberry juice you ever had. Foillard's Morgons are more structured than this so it probably doesn't have the longevity as those, but drinking beautifully right now. |

2009 Becker Estate Pinot NoirPfalz more |
11/30/2013 - Cappie Likes this wine: NRFairly Burgundian - much more old world than new. Some earth, high level of acidity, not very extracted, typical cool climate pinot (similar to some Alsatian Pinot). Given the warm vintage, I was a little surprised at the acidity as I was trying to pick an old world Pinot that a new world wine drinker would enjoy. I was thinking it would be a rich '09, but not really so. Still excellent value and very food friendly. |

12/13/2012 - Cappie Likes this wine: NRA really lovely rose bubbly. The nose comes off very pinot noir-like. It doesn't really have the acidity or minerality to be Champagne, but delicious, elegant, and quaffable. |
