What a wine. Excellent length and depth. alcohol, earth, fruit, sugar, and acid in damn near perfect balance. Wish I had another case! |

11/24/2015 - Sourdough Likes this wine: 98 pointsThis bottle has settled down and come together. More integrated but less spectacular. Amazing mouth feel and complexity. Gorgeous! Tremendous yeastiness which derives from 20 years on the lees |

4/30/2015 - Champagneinhand Likes this wine: 95 pointsLet me just say this 95 is very fair considering we had everything from LGD, 2 generations of DP, Vintage Krug and so many other champagnes that weekend and I sent the longest with this as it took a lot of air to get the stuff to start coming off this. Sweet fruit in the nose but reticent and subdued. A touch of port like fruit as well as some citrus. Not a fresh and clean wine by any imagination, but a structure and brooding wine, which for a champagne is quite different, but given the age, I completely understand. 3 people found this helpful, do you? Large palate and nose with biscuit, yeast, honey, some beeswax and highly floral on the end. What makes this one different and special is that it's so amazingly well balanced. I cannot understand how a wine can be so large and packed with flavor and still be so incredibly light, nimble, and nuanced.... Can I have more please? |

12/31/2013 - bronww Likes this wine: 100 pointsUndoubtedly one of the finest Champagnes I have ever had. This was disgorged in May 2013 after being on the lees for 23 years. Incredibly rich and complex. This is on a par with much more expensive vintage luxury cuvees. An unbelievable value. |

12/25/2013 - CelebrateLife! wrote: 98 pointsI opened Christmas day and '89 is a meaningful year for me, however, despite wanting this to be good, it exceeded expectations. This is one of the most complex, delicious, and interesting champagnes I've ever had. There is mild yeast, under ripe green apple, white peach and minerality on the nose. The palate follows with great balance, good fresh and dry fruit (dried apricots) and a chalky minerality that is very pleasing. The flavors evolve in the glass as it warms only to evolve again on the next pour. The acidity is great and the finish is everlasting. If I had limitless money and space I would have a lifetime supply of this wine. |

5/21/2012 - Sourdough Likes this wine: 100 pointsThis was tasted at the winery. JP degorged it in the cave and then served it to us upstairs with no dosage. This is 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir. With no dosage it is exceptionally dry - about .1% residual sugar. Yeast and toast are the dominant flavors and bouquet. Amazingly complex and long finish. Superb! 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |
