April 18, 2023 - The ‘21 Freisa is an electric young wine. I found this wine to have a fruit expression similar to a Barbera but a tannic structure more like a Nebbiolo. I lack experience with this bottling, but it would not surprise me if this wine improves with a few years in bottle, as it was quite intense and Freisa has the capacity to age well if well made in the still style.
On the nose, I found dark red to black cherry fruits along with some blue fruit tones, licorice, dark floral tones, and sweet spices. On the palate, the Freisa is intense although not because it is heavy, but simply due to the density of fruit, the high acidity, and the considerable youthful tannin. I found juicy, black cherry fruit, anise, and dark florals on the palate. The high acidity, high tannin, and the sweetness of the fruit combine for a very high energy, striking expression.4 people found this helpful 1,165 views

4/18/23, 2:56 AM - Oh yes! This does improve with a few (even several) years in bottle. I checked my tasting notes and a Freisa 2015 was wonderful and still young in 2021.
