December 31, 2010 - Decanted and poured, this wine gave mixed results and ultimately failed to develop as anticipated. The aromatics start off showing well with mature notes of leather, tar, raspberry, stone and dried herbs. Unfortunately the bouquet becomes disjointed with airing, losing its initial balance and nuance. After about a half hour it shows a fully mature, monolithic profile. The color is a tarnished dark ruby that is about right for the wines age. It has lost its youthful vibrancy and is in the mature spectrum for color. The medium/full bodied palate initially shows a mature, unbalanced profile. The palate improves with airing but never fully displays the characteristics expected from this wine. Based on this showing, this wine is fully mature and on its downside. It does not appear that it will benefit from any additional bottle age. This wine has been followed since its release and previous bottles tasted over the years have all shown in the 90+ range. Hopefully this bottle is not representative of the current state of this wine. Purchased on release. Imported by Robert Kacher Selections.
