July 9, 2011 - Decanted for three hours, utilizing a funnel. An almost black garnet, with a lightening rim - showing ruby as well. A nose that makes you want to salute! There's braised meat, paprika, blueberry, mocha and river stones. The palate is also heavily nuanced, showing the spice and berry. A nice and long finish with the tannins exhibiting a lot of flesh. I could see how this has room to harmonize more over time, however, with a proper decant the beauty is very noticeable and refreshing. I do have a preference for Labels (98pts) and Alantis (also 98 pts), but this is still very much a classic wine by arguably California's finest Vintner/Winemaker. Drink 2012 - 2025.
