November 18, 2011 - first note got erased. damn. this wine is definitely worth writing about a second time.

my wife and i bow down to the collaborative creations from larry fairchild and paul hobbs. i've not been shy in saying that the '08 sigaro ('08 GIII not far behind) is the best bottle of wine i've enjoyed all year, if not the past several. i have a bottle of '08 sigaro lined up for thanksgiving (steak that night NOT turkey), so we wanted to get a better sense of the vineyard and have a recent comparison.

decanted 1.5 hours. this intoxicating bouquet can be easily detected from five feet away. in the glass, dark cherry, cassis, spice box, cedar, a slight suggestion of dark chocolate, and the signature sigaro minerals round out this gorgeous nose. a floral element emerges after about 2 hours. authoritative, structured mouthfeel. while many coveted napa cabs are loved for their lushness and voluptuousness, this is to be respected and admired for its regal stature. this could easily pass for a fine bordeaux. full body. excellent balance. the minerality really amps up on the dark fruit finish - one that goes on and on well over a minute. '08 tasting note to come next week.

this is yet another data point that says to me that these wines are utterly fantastic and i'm a proud customer of fairchild wines.
