December 4, 2011 - Pop and pour. In the glass, a lovely golden color, similar to an aged Sauternes. On the nose, a muted mixture of honeysuckle, minerals, and a bit of damp wood. On the palate, an unctuous, oily texture, coupled with lime, a touch of grapefruit, a bit of chalk, and enough acidity to counter the smooth texture, with little if any sweetness. I'm used to off-dry Spatlese where the sweetness is an integral part of the wine, but this was an interesting change of pace.
