Community Tasting Note

December 29, 2013 - Realized I had opened a bottle of this at Thanksgiving dinner a month ago at the mother-in-laws'. We all tried about a third of the bottle then corked it and into the fridge it went. Showed up for Xmas celebration and lo and behold, the bottle was still in the fridge. Never wrote a note from a month ago; feared the wine might be shot but . . . .

Color: brilliant light straw yellow. Striking nose showing excellent levels of botrytis, pineapple, lemon rind, honey, peaches and a little lime zest. Palate was atypically plump for Daene; it's been quite a long time since I've tasted this level of viscosity and sweetness in DD. Comes across with quite the mineral element; peach, some apple pie spice, a little amaretto. Oak treatment is quite deft. This is a powerhouse but still has incredible nervosity; perfect acidity and stupendous length. Redguy has it right, this is downright sexy! This will no doubt be thrilling to follow over the next 20+ years. Well worth the effort to search out and purchase if looking for a reasonably priced '09.
