November 9, 2014 - Definite funk on the nose upon opening. I don't really agree with he term barnyard, but whatever you call it, it was typical of an aged Bordeaux. It mostly blew off after a couple hours in the decanter. On the palate the wine was still youthful with plenty of fruit. Wonderfully balanced. It evolved over the course of the evening, with the last sip tasting sweet and fruity.
We actually bought this at the château in 1999 and brought it home (to California) in our baggage. It was not in a proper cellar the first couple years, until I secured a good locker. It was not clear that the lapse caused any damage.
This wine is definitely ready to drink now if you are ready for it. It may last longer, but no need to wait.
