May 4, 2019 - Very different stylistically from the 2015, which was tender and satiny - this, by contrast, has a serious crunch and bite that made me think there was a whole lot more cabernet franc in here than is actually in the blend. The '15 also had a pitch-black fruit expression while this has a dark backdrop while highlighting redder-toned fruits like currant or cranberry and even a snap of something more exotic like medjool dates. This also comes across more extracted than some of the more ethereally and feminine-styled vintages that have defined the distinctive Haut-Bailly style and I've got to hope that bottle age will reveal its customary figure; however, no previews available today as the leftovers in the bottle 24 hours later were mostly unchanged except to reveal a bit of raw oak.
