June 8, 2019 - Opens with a big blast of pencil shavings from the oak, but it backs off with some airtime. What it doesn't do is offer a very much fruit - it feels hollow in the middle and austere around the edges, with tarry/gravelly flavors more prominent than the fruit and a boxy, austere structure. Some plumminess comes out the next day to flesh it out and smooth it out a bit, though the wood inflections surface again too. Not up to its usual standard this vintage.

6/9/19, 11:13 AM - Thanks Keith. I'm surprised by your TN. Got 91-94 from Meadows & Netl Martin (92-94). Maybe the wine comes into a closed phase? The Morey vieilles vignes 2016 last year was great. I'd give it at another 5 - 10 years in the cellar to develop.

6/9/19, 11:19 AM - Not closed. This vintage has its hits and misses. Could work itself out with time, sure. Or maybe not. If I'm playing the odds, I'd sooner find more 2015s to put my chips on.
