Wow, pop and pour. This was a revelation. On the nose: loads of blackberry, mulberry, red fruit and olive brine; elegant and classy. On the palate: fantastic acidity up front, juicy and dense mid, shimmering red fruit with loads of whole cluster(?) complication. Tang more than tannin on the citric and softly medinal finish. Transparent and varietally representative: excellent!

Pale straw, flecks of green and mid-straw. Nose is a mix of minerality and pale yellow fruit, not much salinity. Similar on palate — initially feels a slightly more classical rendition of Chablis cf the 2018, but it mainly around grip rather than overt salinity. Very decent, but stylistically, or climate-driven, it’s not Chablis like it used to be. An excellent wine though, and this vintage appears closer to the classical than the flamboyant, at least for now. ***1/2

So exciting!
Smells of petrol, apricot jam, elderflower, and chamomile. Cake acid. Fern, fallen leaves, a little pine resin, maybe pine honey? It’s opening up with time and moves towards those piney notes, very interesting.
This is a rare kind of wine that I enjoy in the palate more than on the nose. There is medium+ acidity that lifts the wine a little but it’s still viscous and very sweet. It’s honey, jam, rendered butter, elderflower and chamomile again. All these notes are much more expressive than on the nose and they come one after another within each individual sip, which I absolutely love! Petrol and honey notes also come in here. Some sunflower seeds, Lenin hard candy or cough drops.
Pretty long and interesting finish.

I’ve had a few oxidised bottles of this over the years, but this bottle was sound and right in the zone. Classic tar and roses nose. Richly fruited in the mouth, with a sweet, juicy core of fruit and plenty of savoury nuance. There’s mint and smoked meats and it has a glossy feel. Tannins are sinewy, yet relaxed and length is imposing.

God knows when this was opened and served via a pourer so the result is exactly what one would expect. Just live on.

It’s delicious. Thick black cherries and blackberries with spice accents.

Deeply pitched, dark and creamy. Luscious fruits, violets and other florals. Baked earth and smoked meats. Rich and powerful. Relatively low in acidity but fresh and vital.

Very good, but still oh so primary. This took 5 hours to begin to show its true colours. Deep dark fruit, blackberry, cassis, red cherry and a hint of raspberry laced with a hint of menthol and a touch of smoke. Tannins still a bit chewy on the finish. Not much secondary or tertiary development here. At 19 years old, I think this needs at least another 5-10 years to come into its own. 94pts

Near perfect Syrah for mine. So engaging and ethereal. Stony and cool, with briary fruits. Has some graphite and menthol and a hint of black olive. Structural elements are buried, and tannins simply occupy a space. Fantastic energy and freshness and each sip invites another.

After a 30 minute decant it was cherries, cherries, more cherries, and... garrigue.
Not a robust CdP, but the terroir is there. Lush with the aforementioned stone fruit, there is also a hint mint and lavender. The ending is refined and lingers with garrigue.
Thus far CT reviewers have given this poor to middling reviews with mentions of off flavors and a rough character -which I got none of. Everyone at the table agreed it was a pleasant wine that worked very well with the porcini & radicchio risotto. I consider it just on the right side of excellent by CT's rating standards, and find this to be a great deal when it comes to CdP. You don't find it at these prices typically -at least not in The States.
This has about a ten year window from the vintage date given decent cellaring conditions.

PnPd a 500ml bottle; recent purchase from Grand Vin. Excellent condition. Bright but also savoury. Great depth of fruit but not heavy or cloying. Right in its drinking window. Paired with roast racks of lamb and peas with pancetta & sage. Great combo.

Again rather reluctant and restraint but with good prospects. Drank over 4 days. Best on the last.

Not impressed at all. Cherry, oak, and that’s pretty much it. No sense of place. The wine was very rigid, stoic and mono dimensional. Maybe needs more time. Probably.

Unfortunately oxidized. Had a nice cherry, cola, forest floor background but oxidation is too overwhelming

A lot of tension and minerality. Vibrant. Fruit is underlaying (green apple, citrus). Really beautiful style, away from the toasty stuff. A bit short and diluted mid palate would be my critique, but that’s very nice

Excellent new school Cahors. Still funky but more approachable, and it paired well with anchovies! 14% ABV.

The reduction at this stage of development is noticeable but adds to the pleasure and comes off with air. Generosity is in tension with its fine laciness.

Popped and poured. Much better than expected. Smells like sherry. Tasted like some apricots rained on for a few days resting on some cedar wood planks. Very interesting. Still quite a bit going on here. Yes apricots is the main element here. Not dead yet.

A mineral/cedar/pencil lead nose, plenty of substance and a structure that is lacking in lesser 2014s. This exceeded expectations and while ready has plenty of time ahead.

Very nice priced with balanced nose between trpoic fruit, lemon, ocean minerality and touch of oak. Equally good mouth, the acidity is there to match the sweetness of the fruit.

just lovely. Much more ready than other 1999 Burgs that I have had in thr past few months. the flash decant + 5 hour slow ox probably helped!

Great QPR. Big napa cab style but fairly good complexity in addition to the fruit. Dark fruit, full bodies, green notes. Can taste the alcohol a bit (15.4%) but it’s not overwhelming. Ready to drink now. Fine on pop and pour but improves with air.

Easy buy if you like this style.

Being generous.

Did not like this at all.

Like a big bowl of spaghetti.

On the table compared to other old world wines this was very amateur at best. MEH Boring, so over extracted. Way over the top and over exaggerated everything. What a joke, manipulated. Welcome to new world nonsense. Fake wine

Fantastic wine with a wonderful bouquet, dark, ripe berries, spices and crushed stones, flowers. Very silky palate, spicy, dark fruited, a bit of chocolate, yet some freshness, leading to long finish with very fine tannins. Ready to drink with a bit of decant. For sure a more exotic, modern wine, but by no means overdone.

Tertiary notes start to come out already. Still a lot of fruits left. Some whiff of green note in the glass. Balanced, classic style. No hint of alcohol or oak. I think 2016 or 2019 GPL blow this one out of the water. There is no point in aging forever when the current vintages are way ahead in quality and sheer enjoyments.

Holy cow, this wine left everyone speechless tonight. This is seriously good juice. I’ve never scored a wine 100, and not sure why this didn’t qualify other than I’ve n ver done it before. This is as close to a perfect wine as I’ve had. For those getting into it now, I did a 1 hour decant and it was singing right away.

Cheers

Nose - loads of figs here. Whoa!
Mouth - initially jammy but my palate is soon overwhelmed by tannins and acidity. Some power and serious stuffing here. Jammy but maybe really more accurately described as tarry. Really quite young actually; this has southern Europe written all over it.
