Decanted for sediment and drunk over several hours. Seems like there's still plenty of life in this one.

Pale purple, notes of red fruits, but predominantly defined by flavours of earthiness, wood compost and bitter herbs.

To be honest, my initial impression on opening this bottle was of disappointment. The aromas and flavours were so jarring and wild I did not know what to make of them. But this bottle came highly recommended from someone with good taste so I reserved judgement and waited.

Pinot noir is nicknamed ‘the heartbreak grape’ as it needs patience to cultivate. I would also add that it also needs a patient and curious-minded drinker to discover its allure. This bottle needed nearly four hours to breathe in a decanter before the flavours fell into place. It was a nice rewarding wait. The wine is bold, intense and marked by a rustic character. Still very drinkable even on the third day (vacuum vin stopper).

This was a nice discovery for me but not everyone would appreciate its taste profile and the winemaker's intent. This style is probably more suitable for wine - particularly pinot noir - enthusiasts than for casual wine drinkers. It serves as reminder for me of the varying style and versatility of pinot noir. That it can be fruit-driven, light and fragrant, as well as bold and complex.

I also feel bottle is on the young side though — it can probably keep for another 3 years.

Fabulous nose on opening, all about subtle biscuity champagne notes. With time though it becomes Burgundian, unmistakably Chardonnay, but more geared to a still white wine with a hint of smoky reduction. The mousse is very fine, and the palate has a sweet creaminess to it. It's just so fine and so remarkably easy to drink, and extraordinary to think it's approaching 20 years of age. In great shape, and will likely stay at this plateau for many years. Lovely stuff, a genuine pleasure.

12.5% ABV. c.900 bottles made. Blend of Kerner, Semillon, Gewurztraminer at a 1:1:1 ratio.

Served by the glass into Kimura Cava glass (“No” day): Medium lemon golden to the eyes.

High tone citrus with high definition like grapefruits and with the malty undertone that is consistent with the 2022 cuvees from this producer.

High minerality and acidity, mellow yet bright on palate.

Amazing with food as well. Wow. 94-95 points easy.

Enjoyed it a lot with the beef burgundy at dinner at Big Tiny on Sarah’s last night in nyc. Definitely youthful, but very easy drinking.

Insipid on opening. Next day really very good and changed on subsequent days on the way to oxidation but grew with it to a mouth-filling brute. Great wine.

Light, crunchy fruit. On cranberry and cherry notes. Light and elegant on the palate, moves with easy. Obvious vin nature, and after a while the wine appears less stable with volatility setting in. Make sure to chill. Not for my taste. Lunch in Cairanne with Rune and Per.

This definitely needs air and maybe even a decant if you dont have time. Upon opening it was behaving like tight Chablis and with air it first became a little more fatty with white orchard fruit bouquet (like a Meursault) and then at the end of the dinner it really showed its true self with layered complexity that I have come to associate with Puligny Monrachet. In brief, you are better off ageing this 4-5 more years and I wish I had more of this stuff. QPR is debatable but a fantastic wine nonetheless.

Dusty, red fruited nose with aromas of tobacco and sous bois. Airy fruit on the palate, good lift, mint notes. Perfectly mature for me with marks of mushrooms on the back. True to place, a real joy to drink. Lunch in Cairanne with Rune and Per.

Lovely bouquet. Smooth and long palate. So different from last night's 2013 Wynns Coonawarra black label cabernet but both excellent wines. I'm guessing this is 'in the zone'. Surprisingly light colour. But no bricking.

Served by the glass into Kimura Cava glass (“No” day): Pale garnet to the eyes.

Dried florals, tea leaves, purplish and dark red cherries.

Very mellow and silky tannins. Most may blind this as Pinot Noir.

Clearly punches above the 2020 tasted before. 94 points.

2016 Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
2016 Les Carmes Haut-Brion. Second glass coravined for my wife and I over burgers at home (first glasses were 30 days ago). Deep red fruit and crunchy soil. Very high toned green stem and whole cluster nose, nothing like a Bordeaux, again, like the winemaker’s Rhone roots. Next glass in another 30 days…94/100

While this is good to drink now, showing a lot of old-school Meursault fattiness, oak, ripe fruits, and a slight touch of stoniness, I think it would benefit from some more aging.

Slightly more oxidative and muted than last time, even if the intensity was still there. I'm hanging on to the rest for a while.

I have had considerable bottle variation with the 2000, but this bottle was very good. Decanted three hours. Fully mature fruit, quite light for Beaucastel but delicate and delicious. Best drunk at around 15/16 celsius.

The nose is a bit barnyard yeasty at first but it calms down after a while. The first taste has beautiful white fruits with a deep body that fades out on a mineral note. You'll also get a bit of the yeasty aftertaste which goes great with food but some don't like. Perfect accompaniment with rich cheese. If you like complex layered funky wines, this is worth the cost. To me at least. :-)

1/1, good cork. Decanted 1/2 hour.
Pale/medium garnet core, pale garnet rim. Nose shows attractive pure red cherry fruit, touch of bilberry, florals, some soil and mineral notes. Slight medicinal edge. Medium bodied, pure fruit in initial entry, elegant with refined tannins, spice, soil, fresh acids, good length harmonious finish. Very accomplished, excellent, drinking well.

Cork was good in this one, hardly used. Legs, Deep plum red, hints of age. Stewed plums. Cassis of dark berries, blackberries and raspberries come to mind. Tannins have softened to a fine white pepper. Excellent with a good red meat roast.

Deep garnet. Mature, medium intensity nose. Charcuterie, smoked paprika powder. Followed but next layer of juniper smoked cognac sausage, dark dried fruit, black olives and a slight spiciness with laurel.
On the palate a tiny hint of sweetness, high acidity, medium(+) finegrained tannins finding every wrinkle of the palate, almost full bodied. 13%. Mouthfilling. Flavours as nose, except for the fruit that is fresher and leans towards red. Very long aftertaste with textured afterfeel.
Superb! A top Graillot!

Gold coloured, medium(-) intensity. Developed, medium intensity nose with ripe peach, a hint of smoke and some wax. On the palate a light sweetness (graded two of nine on label), medium acidity, medium body. 13%. Oily texture. Flavours of sweet ripe yellow fruit, peach/apricot, almond pulp with bitter almond. Very good length with a bitter tail.
Spends two nights in the fridge, totally unaffected.
Very nice and easy to like wine, perfect as aperitif or to the duck liver pate.

Excellent quality entry-level white Burgs, nice intensity of fruit and delicate oak treatment. The nose shows honey/honeysuckle, red apples, lemon zest, nectarines and some creamy characters. Nuances of lime flashed in the glass. Medium acid with a rounded, full mouthfeel. The oak only comes through on the back palate and finish with some white pepper spice notes.

Gold with copper hue, medium intensity, rather large bubbles. Developed, medium(+) intensity nose. Red winter apples and a touch of butterscotch. On the palate a very light sweetness, medium(+) rounded acidity, medium body. Mouthfilling with rapidly disappearing mousse. Flavours as nose. Very nice but miss a bit of the intensity, mousse and minerality, found in previous bottle.
From 100% Pinot noir, premier cru from younger vines. Around 1/3 2017, rest 2016, 2015. 85% fermented and raised in steel, the rest in large oak. Partly malo. Label says deg March 2020 with 7g/l dosage.
