Lovely garnet color out of the bottle. Floral nose with hints of leather and peppercorns. Very bright on the border of being acidic, but smoothed out as the meal progressed. Short and dry finished that had a tinge of cocoa and espresso. Not as good as the 2017 Kirkland Barolo, but a nice food wine for the casual meal. This may benefit from some aging.

RSV/Richebourg dinner - showed young. Incense, violets on the nose, but a tad heavy with the wood/oak on the palate.

Lovely champagne. Gorgeous mousse. Elegant flavors and supple mouthfeel with a crystalline and relatively lean style.

Yeech. Overextracted and terrible. Had half a glass, and poured the rest down the sink.

Bolinger like, yellow colour, very good mouse, has complexity and palate weight, brioche, apple and some pear, lovely finish, good value at $65

This was phenomenal. Needs air to come together and probably 10 years to be at peak. Gorgeous flinty minerals and petrol on the nose. Palate takes time to come alive but once it does it is really quite something. Liquid minerals, white fruit, light citrus. Mineral finish.

93-94 this is very good.

bouquet is herbal, peppery, lightly floral, with strawberry. palate is pleasant, initially, a tinge sweet but quickly segues into more herbal and savoury flavours. tannins are still very present even after 3 decant. can be enjoyed now but (based on this showing) still has time on its side.
Red
2010 Château Batailley Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
At its peak, classic Pauillac, power plus finesse, very good finish.

Red-orange color. Dry and a bit acidic. Bit raspberry cherry like. Ok overall, decent QPR. Kinda of an everyday wine

This is my 7th bottle of this cuvee. I think this is the best bottle I’ve had yet. This is from the most recent batch that’s come into the US. No disgorgement info (I think they’ll include it going forward, there’s definitely a push to) so unsure if base or anything. But mouthfeel, acidity and everything else struck the sweet spot tonight. Glad Gallimard is my “house” Champagne.

Initially very reductive on the nose but once that blows off this is a wow Chardonnay. Gorgeous depth and layering. Lovely orchard fruit and flinty minerals with a kick of lime.

This was an unexpected treat. The wine reinforced the adage that there no good old vintages, just good bottles.....and this was a good bottle! I have had this wine a couple times, and this was the best bottle yet. A nice blend of dark fruit and tertiary goodness. The color was still remarkably dark with a slight reddish hue on the rim. The nose showed some florals, earth, and old leather, and the palate followed suit with cassis and stewed plums coupled with some earthiness, old leather, graphite and sweet tobacco. Tannins were well rounded and smooth and shades of acidity kept the fruit alive. Definitely leaning toward the tertiary side of the scale, but still had plenty of discernible fruit. Loved it! 97+

Excellent, complex, balanced, plenty of white peach plus subtle wood, all well integrated, lemon meringue on mid weight palate, fruit still fresh.

RSV/Richebourg dinner - contrary to the '01 Bouchard Aine RSV, this was still tannic, a bit "hard"/structured and somewhat unyielding. Bouquet fared better though, with smoke, incense & tea. Hope it'll improve with more age. The younger Poisot RSVs (eg. '17) seem much more attractive...

So lovely to drink now.

In the zone with great balance and sneaky opulence. Complex orchard fruit cut with tons of mineral spice. Body is big but concealed in a fantastically graceful mid palate. Everything fully in tune. Fantastic length.

Classy, needs time to flesh out and develop, super smooth with grip and med plus finish
White - Sparkling
Holding strong, a little more development but even creamier. Very good.

Unlike prior bottle. This was a bit hot thin and angular, with a core of plump red fruits. Off kilter. No obvious flaw. Same batch as prior bottle.

Nose of ripe and dried black cherries, tomato leaf, and bakes spices. On the palate, big big big red fruit, a bit of cherry cola, and wonderful warming spices. Nice long finish - really excellent “bigger” style of Pinot that can stand up to roast lamb, steak, etc

Very good. Takes some time to open up but the mid-body is very nice and mellow. The end weakens considerably into a pleasant but very understated aftertaste.

Absolutely gorgeous bouquet of red fruits, wet stone minerality, violets, and warming spices. One moment, the floral notes pop. After a few minutes, the minerality. What a beautifully complex nose!

On the palate, elegant red fruits, tart cherry, hints of cranberry, forest floor, and hints of vanilla and spice. Really fine-grained, ultra smooth tannins, and a finish that goes on for ages. Stunning!

Blind. James' 2nd wine of the event.....1 hour decant and 1-2 hour slow ox.

Medium garnet in the glass. No Syrah stink but that black olive, meaty Syrah nose is unmistakable. The palate displays perfect balance with smooth, smokey dark red/black fruit and lots of black olive. It's smokey and meaty, but not in an overly strong way. I don't think this one gets any better than it is right now. Fooled us a bit early on thinking it was a Wash St Syrah.....it's extremely good and ready to drink in prime time right now.

Well made and a bit much in some aspects, but the finish sails on. Blackberries, cassis, currants and crushed rock. Full with body. If you enjoy ripe, bigger Napa, you will love this. Enjoyable and not meek, with obvious dimension. Velvety tannins. Drink now - 2033.

Blind. Brought by Rey to tonight's event. One hour slow ox beforehand.

Dark ruby in the glass. Nose of vanilla and red fruit and almost cotton candy.

Palate displays a soft mouthfeel, which I did not expect from this young wine. Increased acid and tannins on the back end....as it gets more air over 2-3 hours of slow ox, it actually gets sweeter but the acidity and tannins back off a bit. Maybe this one just needs more time?

I am not a big Merlot fan but this is a great wine. It’s the best Washington Merlot that I know of. It has the typical chocolate flavors I do appreciate in Merlot but it also has structure. A bit one dimensional but the fruit is still very young with some nice tannins. This will probably be even better with another 3 years in the bottle.

Served blind. Brought by HMC to our event this night. 3 hour decant.

Classic Napa Cab nose. Showing lots of age in the glass, a light to medium garnet. Looks like it could be an '01 or '03 so no way of knowing how this one was stored all these years as HMC got it at auction a few months ago.

Cedar and red currant on the nose. Palate is fully resolved. This one is drinking older than other bottles I have had in the past year. Smooth, regal and red fruited. It's beautiful, but weakens a bit later in the evening with too much airtime. Just goes to show you how storing bottles can make a big difference in how they drink down the road.....

Deep ruby and purple in colour with a wide reddish, rainy rim and fat legs.

Black and blue fruit forward on the nose with a decent amount of oak influence. Blackberries, ripe plums, blueberries, green peppers, quince, vanilla, mocha, and leather.

Bold and intense on the palate with black and blue fruits and peppercorns, very indicative of a syrah. Blackberries, black plums, blue berries, some cassis, peppercorns, cloves, leather, and wet earth on the palate. Tannins are very present and grippy, black-tea like, with a decent amount of acidity. Medium plus finish with a peppery note and a bit of heat towards the end.

This is quite a delicious syrah - powerful, fruit forward, and complex.

Medium reddish garnet in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of floral notes of violets & earthy/dusty notes, herbs, spices, sandalwood, minerals, orange rind & a slight hint of cedar. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, lush, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums with spices, herbs & minerals. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but it should develop further with additional aging. A wonderful Brunello which will only get better over time.

Opens up well. Not as sharp as a Bordeaux to me, which I mean as a compliment. Nicely balanced, will be interesting to try in a year but drinking nicely now. 92.5.
