Second bottle, opened and decanted for an hour or so, this wine is now a pleasure to drink and in it's drinking window for my tastes. Plenty of sediment thrown, the tannins are there but relatively smoothed out and the bouquet opens up over the evening. Was a fairly reticent and mute wine a year ago.

2020 Château Petit-Figeac St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Ch Figeac trade tasting with 09, 15 & 18 Ch Figeac. This wine was a beauty, not as dark or complex as the Figeac but elegant with great tension, charming, soft tannins, good length, easy to drink now

Deceivingly light ruby in the glass.

Tons of flavour here and a decidedly Burgundian presentation (with the exception of some cola on the nose and palate).

Sweet red fruit and sous bois on the nose, juicy, lingering finish on the palate. Tannins were well-integrated at this stage and soft as silk.

Almost wish this had been the first wine of the night as it's one that you just want to sit with and keep revisiting over the course of the evening.

Pale gold in the glass.

On the nose, butter, sweet cream, and vanilla. On the palate, basically the same deal. There's some apple and ripe peach here but much of the fruit is covered up by the oak, which is a bit of a shame.

The wine also finishes slightly bitter and mineral-y, which would have been great if, again, it had more fruit.

At least it wasn't flabby!

{screwcap, 14.5%} Deep colour, but with a bricking edge in line with a decade. Rich nose of blackberry, soy, cola, liquorice. Palate is a bit light for structure, despite the overall medium full weight, with low dusty tannins and low/medium acidity. Also sits toward the front of the tongue, and with a barely medium-length finish. Not overly alcoholic but lacks finesse and true development. Nowhere to go in my view, although it’s going to be ‘drinkable’ for years.

10th of 12, opened 45 minutes, perfect cork and level, one of the better bottles (ie not corked or poxed), showing roundness and drive of top vintage, attractive flavours, minerality with nice touch of lemon curd, limied upside now, probably best to drink over next 2 years given high risk of flawed bottles with Sauzet.! F+ (18).

Jolie robe foncée aux reflets violacés. Nez puissant, sur les fruits noirs (mûres), une petite touche un peu animale. En bouche c'est très bon, de petits tanins fins très plaisants, des fruits noirs et une belle allonge!

No doubt about the quality of this wine, but for a Burgundy PN its too dark and brooding for me.

Black cherry, cinnamon, rhubarb, vanilla bean, and tons of acidity. Better with more air, and better on day 2. A farmer’s wine that barely makes it out of the valley.

Rather heavy notes of oak on this that still need to recede. Otherwise some pleasant tobacco leaf and blackcurrant. Medium density, it scratches the itch for a nice red with dinner.

Second bottle was better. It needed 20 minutes of air but then opened up beautifully. Floral, herbal and meaty. Lighter bodied, quite old school syrah that begs for a pairing with all things bbq. Nice

Green pepper and salty Padron pepper on the nose. Some blueberry fruit too. I can really notice the Malbec in the blend (60% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Malbec) there is a real blue fruited character to both the nose and the palate with subtle notes of inkwell, nutmeg, posh milk chocolate and tobacco. With air and as it warms in a fairly hot restaurant there are some gazpacho touches as well. Has aged very well.

Jolie couleur jaune assez intense.

From half and under Diam. Some lime cordial and mountain stream minerality on the nose on pouring. With some air there are hints of hazelnut some subtle mocha. Palate has a more pronounced lime oil character with some hints of honey due melon. Broad and more-ish if not quite hitting the heights of previous bottles.

Tertiaries are developing very much already. Rather burly and had overwhelming earthy tones. This lacked any kind of finesse whatsoever, although you do pick up some kind of wilted rose and dark berry notes. More Gevrey than Chambolle, although it’s not really a bad thing. The acidity on this does stand out to me.

From magnum, with my parents-in-law. Light yellow gold. Pear, melon, leesy notes, and subtle oak spice, with good, medium-level acidity, a touch of residual sugar, and very good length. Medium-bodied and well-balanced, with a lightly creamy texture. Very food-friendly. Paired well with sushi. In a good place.

100 months on the lees before it was disgorged in April 2022. Medium straw golden colour. Mixed berries, apple, ripe citrus, almond, bread crust, light smoke, and underlying minerality, with fresh acidity an very good persistence. Good concentration and freshness. Pleasant light bitterness on the finish. Intense autolysis character. The mousse is smooth if still a little aggressive (but tames with aeration). Overall, a very respectable sparkling wine that should continue to develop and drink well for eight to ten years.

Rich and intense, both on the nose and palate. Caramel, spiced apple, lemon curd, the acid is penetrating and the finish really chalky and mineral, which is classic of Lassaigne. This is a powerful and vinous expression of champagne which I enjoy, although more time lying down will do it even more justice.

very enjoyable wine--but I did not like it quite as much the second time...missing the elegance and length and feminism, as well as subtle complexity from the first time...but perhaps my palate was more fresh and sharper this time around....rounded, mellow, layered...I may have been influenced by some of the reviews that point out that fires may have something to do with the funkier subtlety that I really enjoyed the first time
