Purchased at Maison Chapoutier in Tain-l'Hermitage. At the time, it was only available in France and a few other countries (not the U.S.). Still kicking after almost a decade, though I am glad I didn't hold on to it. Lovely gold hue, delicate aromas of flowers and honey, and a not very persistent finish.

A collaboration of one of my favourite Austrian producers Roland Velich and his winery Moric with Volcanic soil producers Villa Tolnay located on the shore of lake Balaton. A new blend for my palate of Riesling and Furmint, matured separately on the lees in large oak barrels for over a year before blending. Light straw colour. Medium+ intensity aroma of apples, pears, peaches, jasmine, mineral flinty notes, lemon hints. Medium body, fresh and juicy, touch of fruity sweetness is in sync with salty minerality.

Wine #20 in our weekly Washington Wine Wednesday series. Nose - violets, vegetal, dark cherries, black pepper. As always a two hour decant. First glass is overpowering with tannins. The tannins hide what appears to be some nice fruit behind it. Second glass opened up to be fruity, earthy and pretty tasty. Purchased to offset a tasting fee. Would do the same again - but likely would not purchase this outright.

Fresh nose, herbal red berry and crawberry fruit. Fullbodied, with fresh acidity and plenty of well extracted tannins, but also some heat that reminds me of amarena sotto spirito and detracts from the overall impression. Leathery finish, with herbal accents. Interesting. Drink 2027 - 2032.

After tasting the 2006 Dujac Clos St Denis in 750 the night before in NYC, I decided to open a magnum of Ponsot's Clos St Denis. Both wines were in almost an identical place which is at their apex and absolutely beautiful. Wonderful CSD nose and mid-weight beauty that is amazingly open for being a Grand Cru in magnum format. Really beautiful in every facet and wonderful to share with special friends. A great representation of a great producer and terroir!

High energy and balanced, ripe red and black fruit and a touch of peat are held up by sufficient structure. A delicious glass of juice.

Average 50 year old vines from multiple vineyards with two types of soil: limestone and rocky marl. Native yeast fermentation and aging in 500 liter barrels with only 10% new. 15 months on lees without battonage. Lightly filtered before bottling. Shy nose at first, Nose with mineral, oak spice and touch of floral. Quite pretty palate. Good acid. Honey. Apple. Medium body. Some oak spice. Lots of savory minerality. More fruit with time. It becomes more expansive as it was tight and concentrated at first.

It has mellowed in the three years since my previous go. Still quite big but the alcohol didn't overpower. It's structured such that it punches above its weight when pairing.

It’s a good effort and at least no confectionery or fake. Will beat any Prosecco for sure and will make a better Aperol Spritz than anything the Italians can through in the mix. 85

Fully mature in 750, I would be inclined to drink this wine sooner rather than later. The first bottle I opened was premoxed and undrinkable. The second fully mature, and I don't see this wine improving with additional cellaring. I have 10 more bottles to enjoy, and it's clearly time to drink up. Ready and will not improve in 750 format.

Tertiary notes appearing after an hour of air.

Cute nose of ripe red fruits, cherry, strawberry jam. Some plum. Tobacco and tar. Quite soft palate comparing to other Nebbiolo. Tart finish with dusty and bit angular tannins. Maybe few years will help to integrate tannins and structure. As fruit quality is nice. Quite elegant wine. If it will mature well, it can offer quite decent value.

Big ripe blackberry flavour with chocolate behind it and some eucalyptus. The drawcard here though is the texture as it's super plush in the mouth. I think there would have to be full MLF here as well as a lot of lees work to give the wine this big, velvety mouthfeel but the final product is impressive.
I drank this by itself and I think you need to have it with meat or cheese to provide you with more palate variety as this wine itself doesn't have the complexity to stay interesting for a full bottle.
Interesting to consider that over the years this wine has won four Jimmys...was it a better wine back then? It's definitely a victime of changing fashions but even so this just seems good but not great, a nice wine but it doesn't justifies its RRP pricetag.

Crazy that this was $230 off their list given lowest retail price on Wine-Searcher is $450! Crisp and taut in the style of the 2016 vintage but it also showed plenty of expressive flavors with notes of dried lemons, yeasty bread and minerals. The finish has a perfect intensity and complexity and is deeply satisfying. I love Collin!

A perfect bottle of this which is certainly reaching full maturity. It shows so well that round and creamy texture that Raveneau’s develop with age and while I might’ve liked a bit more acidity and intensity, the finish was beautifully complex with notes of oyster shells, clove spice and tingly minerals. 94-5

Bob was right, this should’ve been served in the first flight with the Pichon Lalande and Ducru above as it was simply over-shadowed by the power of the '96 LLC and Haut Brion drunk alongside. That being said, I still thought it was a beautiful wine that really showed the terroir of St. Estephe with flavors of earthy dark fruits, Asian spices and road tar. A beautiful wine that needs drinking now. 94

Domaine de Beaurenard's 2016 Châteauneuf is a deep ruby blend of 66% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, with the remainder being comprised in small amounts from several of the other permitted varietals. Intensely aromatic, it offers scents of dark bramble fruits, Provençal herbs, licorice, five-spice and loamy earth. Medium-bodied, lightly oaked, freshly acidic, softly tannic and with well-integrated alcohol (14.5%), it delivers flavors in line with the aromas, adding a mineral component on the dense mid-palate. Long and supple on the back end, this is an elegant Southern Rhone that should show well for several more years. Serially tasted over a three-hour period from a bottle that had been Vinturi-decanted, this reached a nice plateau after the first 30 minutes in carafe. Drink now-2030.

Light yellow with good mousse. Nose is developed, mineral, with notes of citrus, green apples and chalk. Mouthfeel is dry, fresh and mineral, with nice acidity and notes lime, lemon curd, green apples and chalk.

This is really odd as it's a sparkler made from 100 % godello from the Bierzo region in Spain. It shows nice character and is really a pleasant surprise!

Another beautiful '96 with a bit more heft than the Pichon but not as refined. What was interesting was how clear the difference was between Pauillac and St. Julien with the Ducru showing more on the red fruit spectrum with a fabulous spicy complexity on the finish. As David said correctly, it did begin to fade in the glass while the Pichon held up better so drink this with a short decant. 95

As good a bottle as I’ve had of this wine and it was showing everything you’d ever want in a great Pauillac with age. Black fruits, graphite minerals and a gorgeous silky texture which leads to a refined, complex finish with notes of grilled nuts and smoked earth. One cannot under-estimate the greatness of Pauillac and this is a classic example in every way.

A huge, extremely high-class wine with first-growth quality written all over it. Deep, dark and magisterial with a great sense of power and the finest silk woven into the texture. Easily the youngest wine on the table and not fully revealing itself until perhaps the last sip. Don’t drink this without at least a 6-hour decant but better to wait as this is an astounding vintage of LLC that should blossom over the next decade. 96+

Fat smooth texture and acid enough to tingle the mouthfeel. Layers of greath classic riesling notes. Perfectly mature at this point!

1996 Haut Brion – if you think it was just Cabernet Sauvignon that thrived in the ’96 vintage, think again. This wine which is 50% Merlot, 39% Cab Sauv and 11% Cab Franc was simply outstanding with incredible depth and that classic smoky complexity that only Haut Brion can show. It was deep, dark and mysterious and still quite youthful but with time in the glass it showed it’s first-growth pedigree with fabulous balance and an effortless breed and class. A totally underrated vintage of Haut Brion from a top-notch bottle. 97+

A cracker. On night one, the crunchy cherries and crisp and clear. On night 2, they are a darker red and a bit juicier. A hint raspy, lime juice acidity, and plenty of chewy tobacco. This wine has depth and breadth wilst remaining light enough.

Bob's cellar. Dark red, no bricking at all. Blackberry, damson, red earth and ironstone nose, sweet and still has a youthful air. Eucalyptus and tannic opening, still dry, fruit is reticent on PnP basis. Powerful and big compared to the Latour, certainly not the same level of sophistication. Rich and spicy.
Day 2, knitted together better, the eucalyptus, ironstone, red earth and Australian bush is more distinct. Nice but I prefer the Edelstone.

Dark red. Sharp red fruit hits the nose first then there's a dash o blackcurrant. Shirazy black pepper tannins. Fulsome flavours, tannins are present but have softened, dry, a support of red fruit acidity, black fruit, quite simple and ok.

PnP, a pale garnet almost deep copper like colour that I've only seen from Roagna. Really enticing nose of strawberries and orange pekoe tea. Medium bodied, sharp acidity at opening that mellowed out with air, grippy but silky tannins, dried strawberries, orange peel. Really cool wine, has great structure and can't wait to see how it evolves. Would let these sit another 4-5 years (93-94)
