A blend of oxidatively aged Port wines which have been aging mainly in smaller oak pipes. The final blend is composed of different vintages resulting in an average age of 50 years. 20% alcohol, 158 g/l residual sugar and 5,9 g/l acidity.

Rather dark maple syrup or Cognac appearance. The rich, layered nose feels ridiculously complex with intense aromas of caramel and dusty wood, some arrack tones, a little bit of vanilla custard, light concentrated raw chocolate tones, a hint of freshly ground coffee, a touch of maple syrup and a whiff of fragrant Indian spices. The wine feels concentrated, moderately viscous and very complex on the palate with a full body and intense flavors of dried figs and dark raisins, some nutty notes of oxidation, light nuances of arrack and sweet floral spice, a little bit of fruity coffee, a hint of maple syrup and a toasty touch of custard pastry. The overall feel is substantial, yet not heavy - thanks to the surprisingly high acidity that lends great sense of structure to the wine. The finish is sweet, rich and juicy with a complex, extremely long aftertaste of arrack and caramel, some oxidative nutty tones, a little bit of mocha coffee, light dried-fruit notes of raisins and dried dates, a hint of sweet exotic spices and a touch of dusty wood.

Even if I'm more of a Vintage Port guy, this was still hands down the best Port we tasted on our trip to Portugal. And not just to my taste - this was a consensus shared by all four of us! The level of depth, complexity, intensity, concentration and - surprisingly enough - freshness is on a completely different level here. An absolutely singular Tawny with tons of everything and nothing in excess. At almost 160 g/l residual sugar, this wine is noticeably sweeter and more concentrated than your typical Port wines, yet it didn't seem as sweet in comparison. Impeccable balance. Not really an affordable wine at 298,50€ (or even at 270,99€ - the price at which it retails where I live) but this is still really something. Very highly recommended.

Great to drink this at peak maturity. Haunting nose with the pharmcy smell, that I usually only get with mature DRC RCs. Superb balance and elegance.

Drank at the winery at the end of a spectacular dinner. This was the grand finale wine and it lived up to the hype. Intense nose of ripe fruits, great acidity, long finish. Explosion of flavor. Blind I would have said SQN. I have a new respect for Amarone now!!! The kind of wine you can’t stop thinking about the next day.

The matchstick nose of this Lafon Montrachet 2013 was of unrelenting intensity. Even six hours after opening and two hours after double decanting, the reductive style was fully in play and dominated the nose. The Montrachet pedigree was quite obvious with its depth and length; in an elegant, effortless manner. Lovely minerality throughout and just hints of white flowers.

Clearly one of the most impressive whites I drank.

Out host Kwine Tjia prepared an amazing, homecooked meal to match the Monty: the Sous-Vide Veal, prepared with a light veal sauce and some mashed potatoes and cauliflower created a perfect backdrop.

From eo: I enjoyed it with my friends at an amazing dinner they hosted and alongside some other spectacular wines and delicious food.

This beautiful sample of a Burg was paired with a skillfully prepared lobster clear soup dish. The wine’s acidic profile became a perfect fit for the flavorful dish and vice versa. The wine was focused, expressive with citrusy notes and a reductive profile. Over time, it became rounder and developed brioche undertones, while maintaining its citrusy center. Decent length and harmonic transition through mid pallet.

Very Bordeaux like on the nose. Decanted this for 2 hours. Then let it sit in the glass for a couple hours as well. Still has a ton of structure. Good balance. Tannins are still firing. It’s like the wine didn’t age at all. It’s big , bold , n beautiful. Better with food for sure. The finish lingers for over a min but it dies over time. It just still sits on your palate. The tannins overpower the acidity but it’s still in balance with one another. Great freaking wine that can continue to age longer if u please. If I had another bottle I would hold off. Up to u.

Some interesting, out of comfort zone wines: Agree with the previous note that this showed like a natural Chablis. Ripe citrus fruit with high acidity, some hint of sweetness. Suffered from being the last wine of the night so my memory was a little hazy, but clean for a Bornard.

Decanted for two hours before we drank the wine slowly over a period of another four hours. Medium to dark ruby colour. Red and dark fruit, black currant, blackberry, plum, some herbaceous notes, chocolate, some cedar, some tobacco, spices, some graphite, and a hint of mint, with medium-level acidity, well-integrated tannin, and very good length. Develops additional complexity as it breathes further. Broad, lacking focus and precision, but balanced and enjoyable. Integrated and very smooth on day two. Drink (with extended aeration) or hold.

14% ABV. Dark ruby colour. Ripe red and dark fruit, ripe dark cherry, some dill, cocoa, espresso, spices, liquorice, and mint, with medium-level acidity, fine, firm tannin, and very good length. Some VA. Ripe, with medium body, and good concentration. A modern, well-made wine that developed additional complexity as it breathed. My main criticism is that it does not show individuality or any true character. Drink or hold.

Some interesting, out of comfort zone wines: As usual ripe fruit, serious intensity and a general dose of oak, but this was a little stern and not as expressive as the other experiences that I’ve had with his wines.

Some interesting, out of comfort zone wines: Reflected the vintage with dense, dark fruit. Savoury, muscular wine but I preferred the prettier Cossard alongside, though this showed good purity.

100% Chardonnay from Chouilly Grand Cru. Disgorged in October 2022, with a dosage of 6.4 g/l. Medium straw golden colour. Floral notes, apple, almond, nuts, bread crust, light honey, and light smoke, with good acidity and good length. The mousse is medium-fine. On the sweeter side. This champagne feels riper, less fresh, and more developed than most 2012s. Also shorter than expected. A pleasant champagne that drinks well now and should age well over the next 10+ years, but exciting, and not on the same level as the mesmerizing 2008. Drink or hold.

Some interesting, out of comfort zone wines: Possibly the first Cossard that I liked. Dark red fruit as usual for 2019 but at least it didn’t taste or look like a Syrah. Nice acidic spine and structure, unfortunately became more natty and jammy with air.

Some interesting, out of comfort zone wines: My contribution. Looked and drank like passion fruit juice. Serious tannins on the wine that needed food. Think the Ex Vero III remains my favourite in the line-up.

Some interesting, out of comfort zone wines: Guessed Jura Chard but on reveal this made sense. Perfectly ripe fruit while having a superb intensity and acidity. A high-strung sort of wine that I love - I don’t drink this producer enough.

Some interesting, out of comfort zone wines: My extra, most guessed German Riesling. Off-dry with high acidity as usual but the warmer vintage did give a riper, more tropical profile to the fruit. Not too fat which is why I prefer Rudi to F.X in general.

Some interesting, out of comfort zone wines: Had a distracting salted popcorn / cheetos note, didn’t guess this as a champagne because of the exotic red fruit and complete lack of tension. Usually a fan of this producer but this was too natural and out there for me

Pale golden colour. Medium nose with peach, apricot, mango, honeysuckle, wet stone, honey, lemon curd, smoke and petroleum. Medium taste of peach, apricot, ripe green apples, ripe lemon, mango, wet stone, slate and flint. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. A very good Riesling GG with good depth and ripeness. Needed an hour to open up. Drink now or over the next eight years. Goes well with fish, shellfish, spicy food or sushi.

Herbacious, earthy and tertiary on the nose. Some hints of redfruit.

Took about an hour to open up fully. More red fruits came out over time. Some hints of tar and tobacco, not much rose petals which i was hoping for.

Still drinking young for a 63yo wine. But its best to drink soon.

Acidity not too high. Well balanced and smooth. Requires some time to open up in the glass.

Drink now.

World Chardonnay Day 2024 - celebrated in style w this knockout Margaret River CH in the most recently released vintage (v20, 13.5% ABV) - all-in-balance, cold climate-fashionista, elegant & stealy, mirroring Chablis while retaining Oz charm. Pale straw-yellow, greenish reflections in the glass. Nose w readily available fresh pears, green apples, wet stones, distinct lemon & lime-drive, just a tad of barrel spice. Greenish palate, flavours echoing nose, minerality & smoke, seamless salinity, lingering 90s finish!

Something a tad hoppy in the aromas at first, quickly subsumed into what is a very intense wine. Golden colour suggests a touch of skins, as does the pithy character on the palate. The grape shines through the light-touch winemaking, with red apple acidity, floral complexity and dense, ripe fruit. Difficult to judge the potential here, but the intensity and acidity is certainly there for the longer term.

Option for t 2024 National Mourvèdre Day - admittedly one sensational grape variety - was old comrade-in-arms Domaine Tempier & the new acquaintance La Migoua (v19, 14.5% ABV, reversed GSM blend of 55% Mourvèdre, 25% C, 15% G % 5% S) - a masterpiece evidencing t skills of this domaine.
