Arguably Germany's (or the world's) greatest Riesling vineyard, but neither the greatest producer of Kirchenstück or the greatest vintage. This was slow to open, but did give nice minerality with a medium-full body. But no real expression of the great terroir here. Cellared since original release.

Enjoyed from coravin on day 1 and with decanting for an hour on day 2. Pale translucent ruby in the glass. Soft floral nose, the usual elements of nebbiolo but missing the "wow" factor I've encountered with other '19 and '20 barbarescos. Definitely on the feminine side of the nebbiolo spectrum. Good but not great 91/92.

Yes! Finally coming along! No real tertiary aromas yet but deep notes of dark cherry, mulberry, and leather. Let it get some air first to blow of that touch of mouldy cellar (not corked). If you like it young, this is a good spot but it will probably peak in 3-7 years.

Delicious village, nose with spices and cherries. Medium palate with quite some power for pinot, but excellent fruit with black cherries and a fine finish with nice tannins. On the young side, but tasty and drinkable. 92-93 p.

This second bottle was also in great shape. Best as it warmed to near room temp. A substantial and complex new world Chard that is more than just a summer sipper. I can't afford Grand Cru White Burg, but I imagine this probably delivers something close, and at only $6/bottle from auction. Thoroughly enjoyed these two bottles, but now they are gone :(

Feeling a little sorry for those who drank this beauty too early or who don't appreciate mature Bdx.

Auction bargain!

Colour: mature Bdx with dark red depth.
Nez: deep, rich Bdx earth with dark fruits and that beloved sumi ink with a bit of black olive brine.
Mun: Now we're talking! An opulent, fully fledged Bdx in its early drinking window. Good tannins, fantastic acidity and mouth feeling. Perfectly fits the classic warm vintage Pauillac description (minus the black currants) with cedar wood, tobacconist, horse saddle and fruit that is darker more than red.

A brilliant wine that delivered fantastic pleasures on a late Friday evening, after a rather long week...

Not getting a higher score:
Complexity level is not higher than this. The finish isn't longer than it is. The wine is towards brutish rather than composed and refined.

BTW:
The classic Bdx descriptions are flawed and died around the 80'ies.

Again, another Tercero white that blossoms as it warms to room temp. This Roussane was loaded with flavors and textures, a fascinating white that deserves attention and delivers enjoyment as well. These off-the-beaten-path Tercero whites are a journey for the wine lover who is tired of the "usual" varieties.

Pours a deep purple/garnet in the glass. Med + intensity in the nose, developing aromas of game, olive, cured meat, camphor, mint, black cherry, fresh and dried black plum, dried fig, smoke, asphalt/tar, oak, vanilla, coffee beans, sagebrush/herbs, raisin and liquorice. In the mouth, the wine is dry (seems like some RS here), full body, med acid, med tannin (fine, silty), high alcohol, pronounced palate intensity, and a long finish. Overall, very good -> outstanding. Can drink now, potential for aging 5+ yrs. Reminds me of Sine Qua Non, but a little less opulent. I do feel that there's a bit of residual sugar here, but it helps enhance the richness and give body to help with the high alcohol which can be felt on the gums. Very minty in the mouth, not so much in the nose. I need more Howell Mtn syrah in my life.

Organic & biodynamic. The grapes for this cuvée came from Les Cognaux and La Fosse on the first day of the 2019 harvest. Vinified and aged in dolia; disgorged in October 2021. The nose is beautifully oxidative and is dominated by aromas of baked orchard fruits (primarily red apples & pears), pastry, sweet spices and preserved lemon. The palate is super vibrant and zesty and is surprisingly more citrusy than expected in light of the nose. Gorgeously long, slightly saline finish. Lovely.

APPEARANCE:
Color & intensity: medium gold

NOSE:
Intensity: pronounced
Aromas: baked red apple, baked pear, pastry, baking spices, toasted almond, sweet tobacco, white flowers, preserved lemon, crushed chalk
Development: developing

PALATE:
Sweetness: dry
Acidity: medium (+)
Alcohol: medium
Body: medium
Mousse: delicate
Intensity: medium (+)
Flavors: green apple, lemon, lemon zest, baking spices, red apple, pastry, toasted almond, crushed stone, hint of salt
Finish: long

CONCLUSIONS:
Quality level: very good
Potential for ageing: can drink now, but has good potential for further ageing

A more rounded Cairanne than many, probably due to its diverse 'assemblage': Grenache 50%, 25% Syrah, 20% Mourvedre, 5% Carignan. My experience is that there's usually more Syrah in the mix.

A nice Riesling, even if it ends a bit thick. Erich‘s characteristic freshness suits a Riesling - which lends itself to purity and frugality alike - less than some of this other offerings such as his excellent viognier, räuschling, Sauvignon blanc and Chardonnay.. and Kirche on the red side.

On the palate it is also dull and dumb.

Dark pu-er in colour. Has a penicillin nose upon presentation. On the palate, the wine presents lush, ripen fruits, with a rounded and smooth finish. There are 3 distinctive characteristics about this wine: it has a dense body, with a burst of sweetness and ends with a saltiness.

TC’s Production Notes:

The 2021 vintage came after a chilly, relatively dry winter, the exception being a single storm that dropped more than a foot of rain on us in late January. The cold, dry winter produced a fruit set with smaller clusters and smaller berries, and yields were down about 25% compared to our average. The growing season was ideal, with each hot stretch followed by a cool period that allowed the vines to recover, and that combined with the low yields to produce some of our most intense fruit ever and our highest average acids since the chilly 2011 vintage. We believe that 2021 has all the hallmarks of a blockbuster year.
As always, the Esprit is based on the red fruit and meatiness of Mourvedre (35%). The relatively equal proportions of Grenache (26%, for sweet spice and bright acids) and Syrah (23%, for dark color and savory, tannic richness) are a good indicator of the vintage's overall balance and quality. This also seeméd to be a great vintage to lean into three of our more trace varieties, and we used all our Vaccarese (7%, for black fruit and minerality) and Cinsaut (5%, for warm purple fruit and sweet spice) as well as 4% Counoise for vibrancy and wildness. This blend produced something both intense and fresh, complex and yet pure. The wine's components were selected for Esprit, blended in June 2022 and aged a year in foudre before bottling in August 2023.
2950 cases produced.

Incredible polish and poise here, with a linear profile that is just starting to give in the fruit department. This presents as a fairly serious wine, and one that will need more than a handful of years to fully come together. That said, the quality is undeniable, and likely one of my top favorites from the Left Bank (I’m usually more a Right Bank fella most of the time). It is fresh and a little haunting at the same time. An array of black, purple, and red fruit form a primary skirmish line in front of a significant wall of mineral and spice notes. Finishes with crazy exactitude.

The 2015 Latour strikes a lovely balance between old world strictness and new world expansion. Though this bottle plays coy with its fruit, it isn’t shy about letting you know instantly how well put together it is. I’m not the brightest bulb, so it’s not always great when a wine can outsmart you. But in this case, I’ll settle for letting the Latour beat me on the LSAT for now. A special thanks to good friend and CT’r Cristal2000 for carting this along on his trip to share. Truly top shelf stuff. Hold for another 5+ years minimum (10+ ideally).

Straw gold in colour with fleeting aromas. Dry with a sharp finish. Dried almonds were evident with a slightly salty, flinty midpalate. Ample acidity to match the alcohol.

This wine should match very well with seafood with a rich creamy sauce.

An eye opening and riveting wine.
