Very nice. At a point where the wine has started to change and get those tertiary notes, such as an herbaceous, almost forest floor character. At the same time had the brambly fruit that is starting to become a little dry with bay leaves. Then after 2 hours in a decanter it kind of stayed the same, Makes me think that more air will not change it anymore, but more time in the bottle will. Therefore I think I wiill hold onto my last bottle for 5 more years to see where it goes.

Medium amber. Pronounced nose of orange peel, dried herbs, dried apricot, date, orange marmalade, hazelnut, walnut, caramel, and a hint of VA. Medium dry, high acidity, high alcohol, and long, plummy, and alcoholic finish. This was good enough to change my opinion on fortified wines!

Really surprisingly texturally thick and ripe in a good way. First night waxy and honey’d. Second night pineapple and more even-weight distribution, reminded of mid aged Loire chenin in some ways. Was expecting a round, unbalanced blech/glorp finish generic Bourgogne white, but was surprised at its overall presentation of texture and concentration, certainly well made and appropriate for certain situations when a bigger white is called for (nothing buttery or new worldy about it). Some hints of smoke though not like the flint bombs from the area, pretty good considering. From WA and had at FF’s.

Let og frisk spatburgunder i burgundisk stil. Afdæmpet og balanceret udtryk med toner af jordbær, skovbund og en anelse røg.
Savner lidt intensitet og kompleksitet.

Dark nose with blackberry and blackcurrant, maybe some black plum. Everything seems very concentrated but not jammy. There is also a little bit of black pepper and chocolate. Just not awfully complex.
On the palate, it’s largely the same notes: concentrated but fresh black currant, chocolate. Surprisingly good structure that helps the wine a lot. Medium+ acidity and tannin. It falls off on the finish: it’s isn’t short but somewhat watery.
7/18, no regrets but highly unlikely to buy again.

Quite nice, with good depth of aroma and flavour. Notes of black fruits, vanilla, and a bit of coffee. Medium-plus body and medium finish. (Without food and with good company.)

Wow! Totally different from the bottle of a year ago (see 8/6/23), which had a fragile cork and seemed near the end of its life. The cork in this one was in really good shape, and I suspect that was what made the difference. Stunning from the moment the bottle was opened. Italian prune plums, Autumn forest, mint, lavender, and a shy touch of smoke that visited from time to time. After about an hour, a wisp of raspberries joined the dance. Immediately after opening, the wine was alive only in the front half of the mouth, but after only 20 minutes or so it was filling the whole mouth, with a gorgeous smoky foresty aftertaste. A healthy acidity binds it all together. If your bottles have good corks like this one, this should continue to be wonderful for another 5 years and maybe longer. [Tasted over an hour and a half from the Jancis Robinson glass.]

Full marks, lots of slate, good structure, not verging into austere though. Long life ahead.

So delicious we opened two bottles of this Herold SB ‘21 on Memorial Day weekend. Expressive notes of pears, lemons, cantaloupe, honeydew and some pineapples. Fresh acidity, slight mineral, nice fun finish!

This wine perplexes me. On night one the brett is just distracting enough to step all over things. On night two the fruit seems to have swallowed it up to the point its decidedly classic, older world in character. Like Napa fruit with old style left bank cologne. I can't help but feel this is still a tad closed. Its not really showing much maturity yet so no harm in waiting more. Quite intriguing.

Initial opened:
Color is translucent garnet
Nose is barnyard, hay, berry fruit, rocks funk but not off putting.
Sweet on initial taste, constrained, silky smooth
Cherry and tobacco on palette, long finish is green vegetable. Well structured, needs air.

Double Decanted and left to let it get air.

At 90 min open - it’s opening up.
Color has deepened and is more opaque as deeper garnet
Nose is fuller prominent leather, tobacco and wet stone, hatch chilli pepper
On the tongue it char, white pepper, smoother and better balance.

At 3 hours, it continues to develop but ready to drink. The color has darkened to a garnet+. The nose has salt & pepper, wet stone, tobacco and licorice. The palette has smoothed out with a faint barnyard, char, black pepper. The wine is smooth & silky, with a developed grippy feel on the backend. Very pleasant drinking, enjoyable and complex.

Paired well with Tomahawk Steaks.

Really enjoyed this. Excellent QPR. Typical Clare Shiraz/Malbe blend. Dark and savoury. Good complexity. Really opened up with a little air so would be great to see in 5 years.

I've found these wines best with long decant. Opened (quick taste!) and splash decant back into bottle and left overnight. Next day, 8 hours in decanter before serving.

Deep inky purple, pronounced aromas that fill the room. Blueberry, blackberry, violet, cherry jam. Less graphite notes than I remember on 2019. Chocolate and spice. Amazing length and got better as night progressed.

This wine had the essence of Kirkland champagne. None of the flare that you might expect from something at the price point. The color was strong without any hint of rose. This wine would’ve been great for $30

Smooth and fruity with some complexity: blackberry, strawberry, vanilla, licorice, tobacco, and baking spices. However on this occasion it did seem to lack structure and precision, with soft acidity and slightly muddied fruit.

Not a light, citrusy type of SB. It provided a deeper sensation on the palate and on the finish.
Chilled, it paired nicely with grilled , marinated salmon and artichoke risotto.

Young, fresh, vibrant, and primary. Very clear and ripe fruit notes - cassis, blackberry, plum, with bitter black cherry on the finish. Nice acidity and length, with an easy drinking lightness to it. May improve with another year or two in bottle.

I really, really, like this wine. I took this to dinner with Greg, Shannon, Scott and Jennifer at Arlo. It pairs incredibly well with food. This wine is rich, succulent, complex, layered, and all-in-all delicious. One of my favorite white wines in the world. Scott, Jennifer and I drank every last drop. Wonderful juice. Yummy!!
