Mörk granat. Rätt tunna gardiner.
Hallon, körsbär, blå plommon. Ålderstoner av läder och höstlöv. Lätt fatrost och mjölkchoklad.
Medelsyrligt, grovpolerade tanniner. Viss fruktsötma, röda bär, liten beska. Inte särskilt fylligt, som O’Boy på vatten. Kort i frukten men kvardröjande beska i eftersmaken. Snyggt utan att vara elegant.

A little past its prime, a little red fruit upon opening but after that, mostly coffee, cocoa, and mushroom

Great Rioja Blanco! Nose was closed at first so I let it decant for an hour. Light golden color. Nose of lemon, clementine, cream and oak is very noticeable here. On the palate it's rich and creamy, tons of oak but well integrated. Lemon meringue pie, vanilla, butter and some light white florals. Very well made, I'd honestly let it age quite a while longer. 93+

Fantastic wine, had to decant for 2 hours.

On the nose: rich with notes of plums, cigar box, herbs

On the palate: figs, dark chocolate, hints of coffee and herbs. Really long finish and fine grained tannins. Plenty of aging potential still.

Winemaking: Light oak regiment (unclassified), Wild yeast culture, vineyards 500-800m. Nose of sweet tobacco, cigar box, and candied strawberry. Palate is ripe dark fruit. Exceptional body and dusty tannins. Long finish.

Probably already peaked. Soft mature but not vibrant. Not enough of fruit to meet up with the oak. Not bad.

My bottle for a blind Spanish tasting. Very rich, bone dry and yet gracefully creamy with notes of fresh saline, fresh coconut, Eureka lemon, mild herbs and sungold cherry tomatoes on a med-full frame. As I'd hoped, even blind it's apparent to all that it's a major step up from the other whites that preceded it. Exceptional.

Sadly, this is my last bottle. Decanted for about 90 minutes. Still has lots of dark fruit. Soft and smooth on the palette.

Sehr viel Power. Viel reife, fast süßliche dunkle Beerenfrucht. Unheimlich viel auskleidendes, pikantes Tannin. Jugendlich.
Am zweiten Tag in der Nase Sojasauce, etwas Reife anzeigende welkende Lilien, dunkle, reife Beerenfrucht. Viel Power, Tiefe, ohne fett zu sein. Dunkle reife Frucht, betörend. Nahezu absurde Länge.

Five Course Wine Pairing at Blackberry Farm - The Barn (The lovely East Tennessee mountains): Wine pairing at Blackberry Farm - The Barn. Dark ruby red. Expressive red fruit nose nose with maple, mint and a bit of barnyard. Good amount of tannin - super dry. Needs food. Good pairing with ham wrapped quail. Brad - heavypourwine.com

Opened in the morning, took one sip, then drank (drunk?) in the evening. Very tight at pop, don't even think of popping and pouring this. 8 hours later: Complex nose with flowers, fruit, herbs, mint. Black fruit in the mouth leading directly into an equally complex core with earth, herbs, eucalyptus, mint, bacon and then a long finish on decent acidity and cottony tannin. Wish we had given this more time, have a feeling it would have been even better on Day 2 or 3, this one got finished too quickly due to the exuberance of a 3 person spring calcotada; Salud.

From magnum. Aromas of plums, dark cherries, tobacco, vanilla. Medium acidity, medium silky tannins. Wine is dry with sweetness of ripe fruits. Taste of dark cherry, raspberry, spices, dark chocolate. Very nice Rioja.

Not “wow” but a pleasant wine. Still had nice fruit and secondary herbal and leather notes in a very smooth wine with very light tannins. Drink soon

The 88 point score is nowhere near the expectation I had for this wine and its very sad to write about. I let the wine open for hours and it made no difference at all. Very dark and fruity but not much else; just dense and mediocre with flavors of old smokey barrels, and the 94 point score from Robert Parker is absolute BULL$$&@#!!!

Bright red colour,
Dried fruit, figs, ripe, big tobacco style, supple, showing some lovely mature notes. Very nice. Sturdy. Years left in here.

Popped and poured this classic Rioja. Dark cherries, raspberries, coconut and vanilla on the nose. Medium bodied. Medium + acidity medium minus tannins. Decent finish. Paired well with a vegan tagine. The CellarTracker drinking window said up to 2024, but this bottle suggests a few more years of life.

In the bouquet dark berries. On the palate dark berries, oak, coffee, a touch of sweetness and a lot of acidity. I trust that with more ageing this wine will show more finesse. 89 - 91

Deep ruby in the glass, clear and bright. Aromas of plum & blackberry, with notes of leather, paprika, allspice, clove and mushroom, somewhat subdued. Fresh, ripe, plum and black cherry fruit on the attack, with secondary depth of five spice, eucalyptus, tea and leather. Medium-bodied, lithe and easy on the front palate, rounding out toward the middle and finish. Fresh and cool-toned, with round fleshy tannins and moderate length. Well-balanced flavors and approachable.

Double decanted back into bottle. Nice aroma of dark fruits and barrel spice from decanter. Poured dark all the way to rim. Nose of dark plums, spice. Flavors matched aroma profile, modest tannins into a medium finish. After 2nd glass, wine started to go flat.
Unfortunately for this Rioja, drank next to a delicious Lot 234 de Negoce 2020 RRV Pinot which was just hard to put down the wine glass.

Deep ruby. High intensity nose with aromas of cherries blackberries, cedar, tobacco, violets, licorice, dried meat, and baking spices. Palate echoing the nose, but savoury notes more dominant. Med +acid, med + body, med + tannins, which are quite gritty and drying, but fruit and acid balances it out again in the finish which is quite long and complex.

Fantastic Rioja. High acidity, and an alcohol level of 14.5%. Intense anise, eucalyptus, and menthol flavor on the long finish- brisk and punchy rather than broad.

Reviewed my first bottle of this wine back in June 2021. Wasn’t particularly impressed, but didn’t score it as I suspected bottle was off. Turned out to be true as this bottle showed way better. Very nice wine. Nose has some roses, some dark fruit, inviting. Palate is rich and complex. At first sip there are some dark red fruit together with grippy tannins. What stands out is the finish, long, with a nice mix of licorice and violet, together with hints of black and red currant. As other writes, benefits from a proper decant, while I found an hour to be sufficient.

Bordeaux-like without the smoke flavors that I associate with traditional Rioja. Nearly opaque, ruby with significant rim variation and some bricking.
Unlike other CT comments, I say Drink now. Blackberry, some cherry but mostly savory and spice notes plus leather and cedar. Full mouthfeel, chewy tannins. medium plus acidity and a short finish. A disappointment as I have enjoyed Remelluri often. This bottle seems to be aging quickly to me.

Beautiful and perfumed bouquet with sweet spices, red berries and well dosed oak. On the palate juicy red and dark berries, garrigue, vanilla, a touch of sweetness and ok acidity and slightly sticky tannin. Elegant wine in its early maturity stage.

After an initial smell and taste, I felt the wine was a bit shy and some air would do some good. Additionally, there appeared to be quite a bit of sediment so I poured into a Riedel Amadeo decanter about an hour before service. The 2009 Reserva pours a deep ruby with a near opaque core with some slight rim variation; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of dark dried cherries, sage, dried/cracked leather, dill, tobacco, anise, a touch of furniture varnish and some baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose with some added mint on the very long finish. This is a very lovely, traditional leaning Reserva that’s just beginning to show secondary characteristics. Drinking well now and should continue to do so well past 2029.

Very dark, almost inky, for a RR and the nose suggested what was to come which was something of a brooding monster with only hints of smoky barbecue and distant sweetness of vanilla oak. On the palate, the presence of over-extraction was pronounced, this is very much a food wine and for us not your average RR. Still intriguing and could well mellow nicely in time. Drunk at Mirlo in La Caleta, Tenerife.

Having had a lot of heavily Oaked Rioja's lately, this was a breath of fresh air. Surprisingly light and pure for a Rioja without lacking character. Nose was elegant with red cherries, dill and a touch of black chocolate. Palate was a great follow-up to the nose with red cherries, a touch of forest floor, dill but also some thyme, cocoa and a long finish. The tannins were velvety and the oak was very well integrated already. This is a fun, elegant and pure expression of Rioja showing what the fruit and the terroir can offer without being drowned in American oak. Very well made and for sure has many more years to shine in different ways.

Round fruit. Not exciting. No tension. Lots of oak.
Lots of alcoholic heat on nose.
Ripe with herbs.
Tannins not too intrusive but present.
No balance - drinks more than 13.5%. Quite disappointing actually.
Very different from Vina Pecina from same vintage which was also underwhelming and opposite in character being very austere. Let's see how the remaining 4 villages fare in the coming months.
It is okay in the realm of sub £10 from supermarket but not what I expect from Telmo Rodriguez.
From The Sourcing Table.

Beautiful purity to the fruit still, with those tertiary, oxidative characteristics starting to come through. More medium-bodied now, with dusty chocolately tannic texture that is incredibly easy to drink. I typically find more pleasure in reserva styles than this, but the wine brings a ton of yum factor while balancing weight and elegance. Lovely.

Dark fruit with earthy leathery flavors. Noticeable vanilla which I assume is from the oak which I thought detracted from the overall package.
