Was a bit worried this big 2012 VA CF was past prime. It did not disappoint.
2012 was a BIG growing year in NoVA, so this CF is not typical of style for that grape in area.
Dark purple, just slight reddish color along edges. Nose of ripe blueberries and liquorice, still has some heat - big nose, made it fun. Very fruit forward on taste - raspberries, cherries, white pepper up front. Builds with more spicieness and big green pepper in midpoint. Added plum/blackberries on finish with hint of oak and dark chocolate. Lots sediment coating neck of bottle, but didn't need to decant. Gains more depth with time ... 45 mins in and it was MUCH more smooth, but still a distinct CF. I'd recommend opening these soon if you have then in your cellar!

Some great earthy funk up front, I love that. Seemingly a little thin overall, but an elegance makes up for this. Some pretty fruit and flower things going on.

2022 is perhaps one of the best vintages yet? Challenging for me to explain here but it seems this bottle had even an added dimension compared to previous vintages. Really awesome!

From magnum. Stu Smith was in Houston to accept the award for their 2019 Chardonnay (it was the second best overall in the entire show [Reserve Grand Champion]) and we met up for dinner. No extensive note here, but the wine was fantastic: Rich, unctuous, honeyed, and tart with a rather intense Meyer lemon aspect. Outanding. 94 Points.

just beautiful mature wine.
decent fill level and cork condition.
appropriate hue for a 45 year old northern Rhone syrah.
clearly on the tertiary side but still shows a little roasted fruit.
Really nice spicy, earthy and heavy floral notes.
tannins fully resolved.
No decanting needed.
Drink soon.

Quite a forward vintage for this wine showing atypically rich red and blue fruits and lots of exciting spice and game notes. Very fresh and lifted despite the ripeness with the classic taut, chalky finish that I love in Baudry's wines. This is so good to drink now but will obviously evolve.

One of the better QPR wines out there, this shows good sweetness of candied reddish fruits with reasonable acidity and a layered, plush finish. A bit warmer and lusher than other vintages so not my favorite but still a nice Southern Rhone drink.

Lemony and not overly powerful acidity. Great balance. Wonderful mouthfeel that lingers. Perfect with goat cheese. Will buy more. Special not your typical Sauvignon blanc.

A field blend of more than 20 different varieties sourced from vineyards up to 40 yo planted at Quinta de Saes. Fermented spontaneously, macerated with the skins in small [l]lagares[/i] for the primary fermentation (ie. approximately a week), then racked into old oak barrels. Aged for 3 years in oak, bottled unfined and unfiltered. 13% alcohol.

Slightly translucent cherry-red color. The nose feels fragrant, clean and slightly floral with attractive aromas of black raspberries, some sweeter cherry juice tones, a little bit of strawberry, light perfumed nuances of violets, a darker-toned hint of ripe bilberry and a touch of earth. The wine feels firm, crunchy and very juicy on the palate with a medium body and intense flavors of fresh forest fruits, some juicy notes of blueberries, a little bit of tart lingonberry, light ferrous notes of blood, a hint of stony minerality and a brambly touch of raspberry. The wine is impressively structured with its high acidity and moderately grippy medium-plus tannins. The finish is long, dry and somewhat grippy with a fresh, juicy aftertaste of cherries and brambly raspberries, some wild strawberries, light darker-toned notes of blueberries and bilberries, a little bit of blood, a floral hint of violets and a touch of gravelly earth.

A wonderfully fresh, firm and precise Dão red with lots of nuances, depth and great sense of structure. Usually Quinta da Pellada wines are described as the "Grand Crus of Dão" and Quinta de Saes wines as "Premier Crus of Dão", but tasting this next to the 2018 Quinta da Pellada field blend, Pelada (Mulher Nua), I find it very hard to put one way above other. Pelada shows more depth, nuance and complexity, while this Saes Reserva red shows more intensity and sense of structure. If anything, I'd say Pelada is wonderful already now and fully approachable, whereas this wine might actually call for some additional aging. At the moment it is a great food wine with hearty dishes, but it can be pretty stern on its own. However, that's exactly the way I like my wines! A delicious, sophisticated effort - outrageous value at just 12,50€. Highly recommended.

Not a freat experience. Not terrible, but not a value pick in my opinion. Didnt get much spice or depth. Would try again, but wouldn't go out of my way.

Bravo !

Cherry and forest floor on the nose. Silky super fruity yet balanced although initially there were almost cola notes that blew off when tasted a day later. Feels really well put together and classy. Delicious now although will surely improve in bottle. Note written on day 2 once it had opened up.

Candied strawberries.
No tannins. Nicely spiced fruit.
Good now. I don't think keeping longer will be beneficial.
Good typicity.

Drank this to celebrate our wedding (thank you Sameer!). Pleasant to hear a gentle pop upon opening, with some bubbles still present once poured. Still with lively acidity. Oxidative apples, blue cheese. This will always be a special bottle, and will remain on my mantle in perpetuity.

Clear pale gold in the glass.

Medium plus intense aromas of ripe yellow apple and pear, along with pineapple, honeycomb and honeysuckle.

Mouthfeel is dry, with medium plus body and medium acidity. Phenolic bitterness is there, as well.

Flavors follow the nose and leave a medium plus length finish of candied apple and pineapple.

Bruised apricot, tangerine, yellow apple that turns to green apple on the finish with a touch of bitterness on the finish as well. Brioche on the nose. Great champagne that begins to approach more expensive offerings in complexity.

This bottle was a bit of a disappointment, over the hour that I served it. It just remained muted and closed, which is unusual for this wine, in my experience. Both the acid and fruit were tamped down. Mostly muted red fruits, pomegranate, cranberry, and a bit of cherry. Did not change much over two days.
Just an off bottle

Decanted for one hour but definitely benefits from more decanter time. Not quite as enjoyable as our bottle some 3 1/2 years ago -- primarily due to a shorter decant time. I would think an hour and a half to two hours might work well.
Immediately after decanting: Some red cherry and leather on the nose. Low fruit, high acidity, drying tannins on the palate.
At 30 minutes: More red fruit starting to emerge, acid still high, tannins still present.
At 60 minutes: The wine is drinkable but continues to open with more time. Some dark red fruits add to the red cherry, earth, spice and leather of this medium bodied wine. The acidity is more balanced by the fruit, but there is still a streak of tannin on the finish.
I will give the next bottle closer to a two hour decant

Rich nose with dried strawberries, figues, red fruits, nuttiness, vanilla and toffee.
Raisin, dried fruit, hazelnuts, medium acidity, EtOH is very noticeable, medium long aftertaste with a wiody finish
The nose is better than the taste.

Opened 8 bottles of 2001 wine ... 4 were ok, drinkable even - but this wynns was the best of the bunch. Still has dark fruit and even a hint of chocolate - pretty impressive for a "cheap" bottle (at the time). Smooth and really enjoyable, with enough fruit and tannins.

Garnet colored. Black cherries, menthol, tar, blackberries, and something mineral on the nose. Strawberry and mandarins exploding on the tongue. Significant astringency. It is a sturdy wine with nice complexity: very much New World style
