Domaine Serene Evenstead Vertical

Introduction

A vertical of a relatively new winery that has caused waves by apparently beating DRC, Leroy and other notable burgundy estates in a blind tasting.

Flight 1 - Evenstead Vertical (6 notes)

Sweet but with interesting spicyness as well. Excellent spiced red berries. Focused and polished. Kinda pretty. Somewhere between a NSG extract and a chambolle. Drink nicely now but would age.

Rusty , bloody, red ferrous fruits. Cool but ripe fruits, noticeable extract. Brambly , somewhat spicy dark red fruits. Well made for a hot vintage but vintage imprint still visible.

Stewed fruits, cherries, chambolle prettiness backed by light coffee nose. Pretty and sweet cutesy fruits. New worldish oregon but contrilled with some bur like earthiness.

LEather, manure and saddle? Black earthy and very horsey. Dark licourice with gingseng roots and a lot of funky barnyard flavours and bretty. Very earthy, like biting on a piece of dried bark with sweet berries sandwiched in between. If this was a rhone, I prob would have liked it more.
Red
1996 Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Evenstad Reserve USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

Lightl soy , light dried earth, savory cherries make up a charming nose. Savory roots, minerality backed, very earthy and truffly almost like a gevry.

Caramel tofee? or something similarly sweet. Oregon strawberry fruits. Comfy wine with a bunch of dry leaves, earthy , cigarette ash and touch of menthol. Delicate and low toned.

Flight 2 - Other Serenes tasted (2 notes)

Red
2007 Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Côte Sud Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

Delicious, crisp, creamy and rich apparently due to the vintage. Very fleshy, ripe peaches, apricots framed by sweet vanillin oak and biscuity characters.
Red
2006 Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Jerusalem Hill USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

Distinct and eager nose of rose petals and pretty oregon pinot fruit. Palate is more simplistic and rounder red cherries and strawberry fruits. Attractive but not terribly exciting.

Closing

Not totally convinced of the superiority of their pinots yet. The wines while decently good were not mind blowing as some burgs I have tasted.
