Introduction

I went for a full day of tasting at Weygandt Wines, then Ansonia Wines, then my apartment. Lots of good wines that made for a really great Saturday.

Flight 1 - Whites (4 notes)

White
2007 Domaine Rémi Jobard Meursault En Luraule France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
89 points
maybe it was because this had just been opened, but i found this one a bit leaner. still a great mersault with rich pear and caramel, but it seemed lighter on its feet.
White
2007 Domaine Rémi Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Le Poruzot-Dessus France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
90 points
this is a very unique mersault. the nose is loaded with lemon zest, green apple and even some herb. the palate is razor sharp with an intense minerality and slate. finish is almost puckering, but i love the intensity of this wine.
White - Sparkling
2006 Albert Sounit Crémant de Bourgogne Grande Cuvée Brut France, Burgundy, Crémant de Bourgogne
88 points
nose is really aromatic, lemons, musk, a bit of yeast. the palate isn't as creamy as a champagne, but it has good acid a nice kick on the end of minerals and vanilla.
White
2008 Eric Forest Pouilly-Fuissé Les Crays France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé
87 points
golden apples, pear butter and oak on the nose. the palate is surprisingly high in minerals. nice roasted nuts on the finish. not really complex or lasting, but it's easy to drink.

Flight 2 - Reds (7 notes)

Red
2006 Cecile Tremblay Morey St. Denis Tres Girard France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis
88 points
medium purple color. the nose shows meat, beef jerky and red plums. raspberry, currants, a bit of rhubarb, glide across the palate. medium+ bodied, with spicy acid and earth on the finish. very nice.
Red
2007 Bernard Dugat-Py Pommard La Levrière Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard
91 points
the nose was so perfumed with the fruit and mineral and meat aromas. the palate was dense with solid fruit, lacid with a very distinct clove and baker's chocolate note. very bold, but retains that subtlety that makes it so pleasurable to drink.
Red
2006 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru
93 points
similar notes to last time. so rich and i got more smoke this time. really began to show more complexity after being opened for a full day.
Red
2006 Domaine Michel Gros Chambolle-Musigny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
88 points
nose is exotic. lots of cherry blossoms and bacon. smoke. on the palate this has fine tannins, medium acid, and lots of smoky cherries. smooth yet well-structured.
Red
2002 Domaine Michel Gros Nuits St. Georges France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
90 points
nose showed stewed plums, meat, beef jerkey. the palate, however, is refined with velvety tannins and a nice, spicy, acidic kick. cherry fruit mixed wth coffee grinds. yet this wien retains a really elegant, sexy mouthfeel.
Red
1989 Domaine les Goubert Gigondas France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas
84 points
nose shows stewed fruits. smells tired. still some lamb and tobacco. gamey. very low on the fruit. there's a flavor that's much closer to ashes than tobacco. subtle wine. verging on too weak for me. but if you like earthy, nonfruity wines, this is in a good place. in my opinion, it's five or ten years too late.
Red
2005 Morlanda (Viticultors del Priorat) Priorat Vega Escal Spain, Catalunya, Priorat
90 points
dark magenta color. figs, plums and chocolate on the nose. the palate is surprisingly vibrant with sicy acid. gritty tannins. the fruit is spicy. nice blackberries, cherries. a bit of coffee grinds and bitter chocolate on the finish. very long finish.
