Introduction

All wines tasted blind. We had no idea what we were sampling.

Flight 1 (1 note)

Red
1997 Pahlmeyer Merlot USA, California, Napa Valley
89 points
nose - nice nose of red fruit, plum
mouth - slightly bitter, as well as a bit tight, though it started to relax after an hour or so (or perhaps I did). Still with plenty of life. well liked by my friends.

Flight 2 (1 note)

Red
1996 Pahlmeyer Merlot USA, California, Napa Valley
92 points
magical nose of sweet smoky fruit. tasted blind and i guessed it to be Burgundy.
mouth - supple, fine tannins, delicious red fruit with complexity, a touch bitter at first, but also opening with time. My second time having this courtesy of Duane. a fine wine.

Flight 3 (1 note)

Red
1994 Pahlmeyer Merlot USA, California, Napa Valley
88 points
nose - strawberry
mouth - lush red fruit and good structure. my fist instinct was to say 'yummy'.

Flight 4 (1 note)

Red
1995 Pahlmeyer Merlot USA, California, Napa Valley
88 points
nose - sour fruit, somewhat candied nose
mouth - supple, sweet fruit, big tannins.

Closing

the '96 Pahlmeyer Merlot sings. My score is probably too conservative. Thanks for putting it together Duane.
