Introduction
Great night of double blind tasting action. Interesting wines and of course no corked bottles at our events (preview first). My wine of the night and group's was the 2004 Achaval-Ferrer which is a true star from South America. The Hourglass was the most interesting wine and change a lot. A fun wine to revisit in five years. I threw in the Meek Petit Verdot which showed well blind and revealed it as an extra.

Another solid showing of this wine with lemon, chalk, toast and dough. The dough was really evident on the nose but not as much on the palate. I have had really good look with their N.V. offerings over the last few years.

2007 Siduri Pinot Noir Rosella's Vineyard

Very aromatic wine with strawberry, raspberries, minerals, floral and some forest floor. On the palate sweet fruit and a chalky quality to the wine. Throughout the night the wine evolved and changed in a positive way. Should be able to age this five plus years as their were medium/firm tannins present. Well done.

2005 Meek Family Estate Petit Verdot

I had some fun with this wine at a blind offline and inserted it into the mix. Being a double blind event we had guesses from Washington and Australia. This was a pop and pour and the wine showed nice spice, floral, oak and vanilla along with some sour cherry. It is rare to drink 100% Petit Verdot wine but this is a winner for under $30.

An interesting wine to say the least. Very light in color and took a long time to open up. This might be a stellar wine in five years as it evolved throughout the night. Coffee, floral, dust, vanilla and spice. Not a lot of fruit I could detect but an enjoyable wine.

2004 Achával-Ferrer Malbec Finca Mirador

A wow wine! Decanted only 30 minutes which is more than enough time. Extremely aromatic nose of blueberries, blackberries, spice and pepper. Over time the palate changed and revealed some white pepper and cranberry notes. Long finish and concentrated wine. A true elite wine from South America. Drinking window within 3 to 5 years.
Day 2: I would not leave any til day 2 as it is good but not even close to as good. It lost a lot of the nice fruit character and is not as concentrated.

2007 Carlisle Syrah Dry Creek Valley

Dark purple. Nose of spice, cinnamon, raspberry and floral notes. A juicy wine on the palate but lacks some concentration. Medium finish.

I love this wine and no bad bottles to date. From a 375 and features garrique, pepper, raspberry and minerals. Good acid profile and medium finish.

Not real concentrated but has the classic aromas and palate you would expect from Porto. Raspberry, maple syrup, floral and coffee grounds. Medium finish and a tad hot.

Double blind is humbling and fun. We will have to do this again soon.
