Introduction

A very interesting blind tasting of Bordeaux wines and Bordeaux blends. The wines were tasted in pairs; in each flight one Bordeaux.
Conducted by Hilah; very good wines.

Flight 1 (2 notes)

Red
2006 d'Arenberg The Galvo Garage Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
91 points
Tasted blind. Bright ruby color. Very alcoholic in the nose, with red fruits and chocolate. Good harmony, with lots of fruit in the palate too. Light to medium bodied, very good structure. Good backbone of acidity and soft tannins. Medium to long finish. I will never guess that this elegant wine is Australian!!
Red
2006 Château Sociando-Mallet France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
86 points
Tasted blind.May be this bottle was spoiled.I really did'nt like the wine. Stinky nose, with mustiness and animality but with no fruit at all. Light to medium bodied, hollow and unbalanced. Soft tannins.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

Red
2006 Domaine de Chevalier France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
91 points
Tasted blind. Bright ruby color. Interesting and complex nose – red fruits, earth, coffee and chocolate. Medium bodied, good harmony, nice fruit in the palate too. Well balanced acidity and soft tannins. Very good.
Red
2006 Montes Alpha M Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley

Tasted blind. Bright purple. Peculiar nose with an excellent mix of fruit, earth and animality. Full bodied, good harmony and excellent balance, with well integrated acidity and strong but velvety tannins. Long finish. Excellent wine!

Tasted blind. Dark and bright purple color. Very expressive and powerful nose, with both red and dark fruits, earth, hints of chocolate. Very nice fruit in the palate too. Full bodied and mouth filling, balanced acidity and very soft tannins. A nice bitterness in the palate and in the medium finish.

Flight 5 (3 notes)

Red
2007 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Tasted blind. Opaque ruby color. Superb, expressive nose with ripe fruits, chocolate/coffee and mustiness. But in the mouth it was disappointing, with lack of balance – too much bitterness that takes over the other components. Medium to full bodied, medium acidity. Nice (130$).
Red

92 points
Tasted blind. Bright ruby color. Exquisite, complex nose, with predominant ripe fruits and chocolate. Alcohol. Full bodied, high acidity, soft tannins. Good balance. Long finish, Excellent!! (78$)
Red
2004 Château Léoville Barton France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Tasted blind. A complex and hard to define nose. Ripe fruit, sweetness. Full bodied, with well integrated acidity and soft tannins.
