Flight 1 (1 note)

White - Sparkling
1981 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut Collection France, Champagne
96 points
beautiful elegance and balanced, very long, slight sweetness, some minerals. Amazing.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

White
1985 Domaine Leflaive Chevalier-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
97 points
One of the highlights in the tasting - pure and elegant, feels timeless and perfect. Rich and long.
White
1978 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
93 points
quite complex and mineral-driven. Not overpowering, rather discrete. Don't discover oxidation here at this stage.

Flight 3 (3 notes)

Red
1959 Maison Leroy Musigny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
88 points
Felt a bit tired, even thought the nose delivered great, mature Pinot hints and the wine developed well in the glass over time. The DRC GE 1962 completely overshadowed this.
Red
1962 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands-Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
98 points
Superb wine, one of the highlights of the tasting - brilliant, complex, exotic with spice and finesse. Perfectly balanced, powerful; great length.
Red
1959 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
92 points
Great mature Burgundy - beautiful expression of mature Pinot fruit with an elegant sweetness, earth, underwood, bit of spice - held up very nicely.

Flight 4 (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
1996 Krug Champagne Clos du Mesnil France, Champagne
99 points
Wow, what a wine. Laser-like precision. This is how perfect acidity can taste, with just the right level of sweetness and minerality. Pretty perfect wines.
Red
1961 Château Cheval Blanc France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
98 points
Chateau bottled - this wine seems at best have reached teenage years - still deep color and some tannins; beautiful sweetness and depth with spice attached - would probably wait another 20, 30 years to drink.

Flight 5 (1 note)

Red
1961 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
100 points
Mahler-Besse bottle. Lives up to expectations; compared to the Cheval Blanc this seems to have reached perfection in its evolution. Opulent, seductive, complex - this is hard to beat.

Flight 6 (3 notes)

Red
1993 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée St. Vivant France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
94 points
Great precision with a nose true to the terroir, great flavors and promise of a wonderful wine - got better with time in the glass; whilst some of the 1993 tend to be a bit rustic at times, the RSV showed its class.
Red
1993 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
93 points
I liked this wine more than my friends did - think the nose is quite archetypical Musigny - great intensity - just needs more time
Red
1993 Domaine Leroy Clos de la Roche France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
93 points
Great concentration here and sweetness, approachable now

Flight 7 (2 notes)

White - Sweet/Dessert
1973 Château d'Yquem France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
93 points
Had this before - pales next to the 1983, but I quite like this wine that has a bit more acidity and contrast than its more dominant peer at the dinner
White - Sweet/Dessert
1983 Château d'Yquem France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
94 points
Explosive and concentrated with a very long finish - wow, powerhouse of an Yquem
