Introduction

Another good event. All the wine showed well overall. I was disappointed with the Cayuse and could not get pasted its strange floral notes. Next up High End Cabs.

Flight 1 (8 notes)

White
2006 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Kabinett Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
92 points
A great wine for the money and has not disappointed yet. Apricots, floral, orange peel and minerals. Balanced and should drink well for five more years.
Red
2001 Greenock Creek Shiraz Apricot Block Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
93 points
3 hour decant: 2 Vinturi's
Last bottle and drinking well. Should have another five plus years of enjoyment. Licorice, pepper, vanilla, minerals and blueberries. Still medium tannins and medium finish. This wine is showing more secondary characters at this stage. A minor step below the last showing of this wine.
Red
2001 Yalumba Shiraz The Octavius Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
93 points
30 minute decant
Wood, perfume, vanilla, spice and mint. Not much fruit showing but full of flavors. This wine changed throughout the night and got better later. Should age for five plus years. Tied second for me with the Apricot Block.
Red
2006 Cayuse Syrah Cailloux Vineyard USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley

A strange wine indeed. Plenty of flavor but the herbal side of the wine got worse over the night. I recommend a pop and pour as it offered roasted meats, spice and green olives. Not sure what to make of this producer as I have not been impressed with any of their wines so far.
Red
2007 Lillian Winery Syrah USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County
94 points
My wine of the night and improved over time. Vibrant nose of blackberries, olives, floral and ripe fruits. Concentrated palate and opened up over 2 hours of tasting. I recommend a few years in the cellar on this one. Long finish.
Red
1998 M. Chapoutier Côte-Rôtie La Mordorée France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
92 points
Not as good as before but still nice with funk, mushrooms, spice, game and white pepper. A little light on the palate and medium finish. Drink now.
Red
2009 Delas Frères Hermitage Domaine des Tourettes France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
92 points
Generous with the 92 as I think it will improve. Parker 98 really? Dark in color with blackberries, black pepper, sice and cherry. Medium finish and a bit tight. Decanted 4 hours but needs some cellar time. I would not buy based on what I see now.
White - Sweet/Dessert
1988 Château Suduiraut France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
87 points
Nothing wrong with this but a bit past prime. Honey, apricots and chalk. Shorter finish.
