Flight 1 (13 notes)

White
2007 Domaine Dublère Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumées France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting. Very rich styled Chassagne with good concentration to start and in the middle, less power on finish, but better textures.
White
2007 Domaine Dublère Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Tasting. Really sensational. Big and fat fruit aromas and flavors that show some tropical fruit upfront, followed by ripe and intense apple. While there seems to be an ever-so-slightly sweet element here, everything comes across in great harmony, particularly on a long impressive finish. 93-94 point potential for me today, one of my 2 favorite white wines at the tasting.
White
2007 Benoit Ente Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Folatières En la Richarde France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting. Very floral start with lots of apple, pear and lemon peel. More of the lemon and lemon peel on palate, with great acidity and minerality. Very long, nuanced finish. Much better than when tried a few months back, which might have been just as it arrived in the US. 92-93 point potential here.
White
2007 Domaine des Croix Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Great aromatic start with orchard fruit, oak spice and enticing floral, perfumed elements. Intense and powerful apple and pear flavors with sensational structural support helping provide texture and length. Lots of everything.
White
2008 Vincent Mothe Chablis France, Burgundy, Chablis
Tasting, brief note. Round and soft fruit aromas and flavors. Good for its level.
White
2008 Vincent Mothe Chablis Grand Cru Bougros France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Very good orchard fruit aromas. Similar flavors. Good length and power and heft, but perhaps not the classic acidity and minerality of Chablis Grand Cru.
White
2007 Jean-Yves Devevey Bourgogne Blanc France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
Tasting, brief note. Slightly floral start with orchard fruit aromas. Modest fruit given the quality of the vintage. Good for its level.
White
2006 Jean-Yves Devevey Rully Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Rully
Tasting, brief note. Ripe, fat fruit on both nose and palate. Easy to enjoy, best to drink young.
White
2002 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Lean for the vintage, austere in a mostly good way, seemingly somewhat shut down at present.
White
2007 Jean-Claude Bessin Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume La Pièce au Comte France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Moderate citrus aromas, then good tart lemon and minerality. Moderate length.
White
2007 Jean-Claude Bessin Chablis Grand Cru Valmur France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Good apple aromas, then robust and ripe apple and pear flavors. Slightly shorter finish than I expected based on start and middle.
White
2008 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine
Tasting, brief note. Soft and very accessible fruit. Another great value success by Lafon in the Macon.
White
2007 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Intense pear and some peach with an alluring floral start. Meaty and powerful with lots of acidity and energy. Really sensational.

Flight 2 (35 notes)

Red
2007 Domaine Dublère Beaune 1er Cru Les Blanches Fleurs France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Tasting. Fresh fruit, even if a bit simple, with good spice. Best to drink young.
Red
2007 Domaine Dublère Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Les Blanchards France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
Tasting. Accessible and charming red fruit with background spice and good textures. Good now, best to drink young.
Red
2006 Domaine Dublère Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Champeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Tasting. My favorite of the Dublere reds at the table, of course this is 2006 vs. the others 2007. Red and black fruit, quite ripe. Good density and some emerging hints of Gevrey animale character on finish. Also probably best on the young side, perhaps, 2011-2016.
Red
2007 Domaine Pavelot (Jean-Marc et Hugues) Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Guettes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
Tasting. I had low expectations for Savigny in 2007 but this was a very pleasant surprise. Powerful red and black fruit holding up well to firm structure, everything in good balance already, with good persistence.
Red
2006 Domaine Pavelot (Jean-Marc et Hugues) Beaune 1er Cru Bressandes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Tasting. Big and dense fruit, somewhat firm and backward today, with structure a bit dominant for the level and quality of fruit that came through today. Needs perhaps a decade in cellar.
Red
2007 Olivier Bernstein Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Black fruit aromas with oak spice and a very Gevrey sauvage element. Good density for its level, particularly for the vintage. Probably best on the younger side, 2012-2017.
Red
2007 Olivier Bernstein Mazis-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Slightly reductive to start, also showing a very intense Gevrey-Chambertin animale character. Dense black cherry and blackberry aromas and flavors with very balancing and harmonious spice. Long and powerful. Exceptional potential, particularly for the vintage.
Red
2006 Domaine Alain Burguet Bourgogne Les Pince Vin France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Tasting, brief note. This was ok but for a few dollars more I would always choose Burguet's Gevrey-Chambertin Places des Lois, also tasted today.
Red
2006 Domaine Alain Burguet Gevrey-Chambertin Places des Lois France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Tasting, brief note. Black fruit in overall good balance already now. Somewhat simple but a very good everyday drinker for a young wine in the $25-30 price range.
Red
2006 Domaine Alain Burguet Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Favorites Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
91 points
Tasting, brief note. A real step up from the Burguet 2006 Gevrey Places des Lois just tasted. Black fruit aromas, layered flavors. Long, dark fruit. Very impressive for its level. Cellar to at least 2013, this should then drink well for a decade+.
Red
2007 Gérard Mugneret Vosne-Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Tasting, brief note. Simple red fruit flavors and aromas. Forward and accessible, but simple with a slightly bitter hint on the finish.
Red
2007 Domaine Lignier-Michelot Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée Bertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Tasting, brief note. Big black fruit on nose and palate, lots of structure from middle to finish. Good potential for its level, but needs a few years to soften.
Red
2007 Domaine Lignier-Michelot Morey St. Denis En la Rue de Vergy France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis
Tasting, brief note. Red and black cherry aromas. Fruit is very pleasant and approachable today, this will be best now through 2015.
Red
2007 Domaine Lignier-Michelot Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Les Faconnières France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Mostly red fruit with good background spice. Firmly structured, this will need another 3-5 years in the cellar, but it has good raw materials. 89-90 point potential, very good for the 2007 vintage.
Red
2007 Clos Salomon Givry 1er Cru Clos Salomon France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Givry 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Ripe fruit aromas with some mushroom elements. Mostly ripe red cherry on palate, very accessible with moderate intensity and weight. everything in balance, best to drink young. A well made 2007.
Red
2007 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay
Tasting, brief note. Accessible, ripe red fruit aromas with floral background hints. Similar fruit on palate with some earth hints and textures. Moderate length and finesse. Good for its level.
Red
2007 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Very good aromatic start sowing red fruit, floral notes and spice. Slightly less interesting today on palate, with same fruit but firmly structured. Needs plenty of time in cellar for a 2007.
Red
2007 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Santenots France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. For me this was a big step up from the Volnay Caillerets also just tasted. Pretty and charming red fruit aromas with a good spice complement. Forward red fruit on palate that is ripe and approachable, well framed with moderate tannins for mid-term consumption, 2012-2017.
Red
2007 Digioia-Royer Bourgogne France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Tasting, brief note. Came across as very 2007 - ripe start, simple middle, slightly rough finish. Ok for it level.
Red
2007 Digioia-Royer Chambolle-Musigny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Tasting, brief note. Shows lots of red fruit, good textures, really showcasing Chambolle character. Delicate and a bit simple.
Red
2005 Digioia-Royer Chambolle-Musigny Les Fremières Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Tasting, brief note. Floral start with robust red fruit. Well textured, long on palate. A bit hard in the middle today, give this to 2015 or later and I expect it will be a classic Chambolle beauty.

Red
2006 Fougeray de Beauclair Vosne-Romanée Les Damodes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Tasting, brief note. Large boned wine from Vosne that didn't really show lots of Vosne character to me today. Good and easy to drink, best young.
Red
2007 Fougeray de Beauclair Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. I normally like this wine a lot, considering it a great "value" Bonnes Mares that will also drink well on the younger side (8-15 years old). This was forward and ripe but didn't really show the Bonnes Mares muscle or firmness, ending with a slightly empty finish. I think this will get better in a few years, but expect it will drink best young, perhaps, 2012-2018.
Red
2006 Domaine Dominique Mugneret Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. A very good 2006 that shows charming Vosne character I often enjoy in good NSG Boudots. Ripe fruit aromas with clove and nutmeg. Mostly black fruit flavors, again well supported with spice and hints of new oak. Good balance and textures. Very good.

Red
2007 Domaine Dominique Mugneret Vosne-Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Tasting, brief note. Forward fruit with spice hints. More 2007 than Vosne to me today, good wine to drink young.
Red
2007 Domaine Dominique Mugneret Echezeaux En Orveaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Pale color. Nicely perfumed with moderate red cherry aromas. Red cherry and spice hints on palate. Approachable now with moderate density, this is a very well made 2007 Grand Cru that will most likely drink best on the young side.
Red
2007 Camille Giroud Gevrey-Chambertin Les Crais France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Tasting, brief note. Red and black cherry aromas, bit of earth and floral hints. Moderate and accessible fruit with some sauvage meatiness. Forward and accessible, best to drink young.
Red
2007 Camille Giroud Latricières-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Red fruit aromas and flavors with some meaty, Gevrey hints in background. Moderate density at best, I found this a little thin and drying on finish. Others seemed to like this more than I did today.
Red
2007 Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. A sensational 2007. Great floral start with ripe red fruit. Comes across as slightly delicate to start with a lacy texture, almost Chambolle-like. Picks up sneaky power and heft in middle, but I expect this will pick up considerable weight with time in the cellar, partly as the oak softens and integrates. Great spice on finish. Elegance in a bottle.
Red
2006 Sylvain Cathiard Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Murgers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Ripe red berry and cherry aromas with good spice. Perhaps a bit oaky for right now. Slightly more subtle on palate with some delicacy, good textures and layers starting to emerge. Comes across as a wine that nicely intersects NSG and Vosne-Romanee.
Red
2007 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. A very successful 2007 with forward red fruit aromas and background spice hints. Moderate weight and density but overall good balance. I would expect this to drink well young, perhaps best 2012-2020.
Red
2007 Domaine Denis Bachelet Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Tasting, brief note. Mostly black fruit aromas and flavors. Slightly meaty but not dense. Approachable now, best on the young side, 2011-2017.
Red
2006 Domaine Denis Bachelet Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Tasting, brief note. A fascinating contrast with its 2007 counterpart, also just tasted. This 2006 has much more density and concentration with large scaled black fruit and prominent tannins. Somewhat firm right now, this will require some time in cellar to show its full potential.
Red
2007 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Volnay 1er Cru Santenots-Du-Milieu France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Tough wine to assess. Good start that is floral and slightly perfumed with forward red fruit. Palate also showed ripe red cherry and raspberry but came across as thinner than I 'd expect and somewhat lean. Spice emerged on finish.
Red
2006 Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, b rief note. Rich and ripe red fruit with moderately perfumed start. Came across as far more substantial and robust than another bottle tasted last month.
