Flight 1 - Kermit Lynch (13 notes)
Hard to beat this line up
Red
2008 Guy Breton Régnié
Light color. Herbal and earthy with little fruit. A typical 2008 in my experience.
Red
2010 Charly Thevenet Régnié Grain & Granit
Dark color, deeply flavored with a bit of funk. Tart, surprisingly powerful and tannic. Very good and so much better than the '09, which was a gooey, overripe mess.
Red
2010 Domaine de la Voute des Crozes Côte de Brouilly
Medium color. Floral aromas. Light weight. Black fruit and graphite. Very precise.
Red
2011 Château Thivin Côte de Brouilly
Dark. Earthy nose. Good concentration. Tart cherry fruit. Very good.
Red
2009 Jean Foillard Fleurie
Lush, deep red fruit, amazing texture bolstered by excellent acidity. It's probably impossible to get more out of Gamay. This has the stuffing and balance to go on for a few decades.
Red
2010 Guy Breton Morgon Vieilles Vignes
Lighter color. Light weight. Very understated, elegant red and black fruit with a bit of sap. Very nice.
Red
2010 Jean-Paul Thevenet Morgon Vieilles Vignes
Magnum. Slightly cloudy, some brett. Strange flavors, tart, not pleasing in its feel. Just weird-probably an off bottle.
Red
2010 Marcel Lapierre Morgon
Medium color. Earth, spice and strawberry. Epitome of elegance and balance with excellent acidity. Wonderful wine.
Red
2010 Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Corcelette
Medium depth of color. Tart, herbal Gamay nose. Good mixed fruit, some sap, crisp acidity and a dash of earth. Really good and I like it much more than the 2009, which was curiously lean and green for that vintage.
Red
2010 Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py
Deeper color, more overtly fruity than the Corcelette. Larger scaled yet not heavy, dark cherry fruit and less herbaceous than its stablemate. Outstanding! Right up with the Lapierre at the highest rung of this tasting.
Flight 2 - Farm Wine (7 notes)
Also a very fine range
Red
2011 Domaine des Terres Dorées (Jean-Paul Brun) Beaujolais Cuvée l'Ancien Vieilles Vignes
Tart aromas and flavors. Light bodied yet authoratative. Classic.
Red
2010 Domaine des Terres Dorées (Jean-Paul Brun) Côte de Brouilly
Medium depth. Floral. Deep, dark core of fruit. Excellent acidity.
Red
2010 Domaine des Terres Dorées (Jean-Paul Brun) Morgon
Restrained, deep, backward and tannic. The biggest 2010 from Terre Dorees.
Red
2010 Georges Descombes Morgon Vieilles Vignes
Also fairly dark. Great depth of piquant, spicy fruit. Terrific complexity. Truly excellent.
Red
2010 Coudert Fleurie Clos de la Roilette
Black fruit aromatics. Light weight, acidic and stony with late arriving fleshier fruit. Terrific.
Flight 3 - Selection Massale (3 notes)
Red
2012 Maison P-U-R (Cyril Alonso and Florian Looze) Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau
Grapy but good depth for nouveau.
Red
2011 Maison P-U-R (Cyril Alonso and Florian Looze) Beaujolais-Villages Quartz et Sable
Carbonic style, spritzy. Good depth.
Red
2010 Maison P-U-R (Cyril Alonso and Florian Looze) Morgon Côte du Py
Carbonic. Restrained nose of black cherry. Fat for a 2010 and somewhat funky.
