Flight 1 (5 notes)

Red
2006 Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
93 points
Consistent with note from last week...good stuff!
Red
2009 Epoch Estate Wines Tempranillo USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles
93 points
This note is after two days open in the bottle, and I think it's showing it's best today. Gives up a mature, ripe, deep red fruit nose, molasses, port notes, leather, tobacco, spices. Very full bodied wine, silky smooth tannins.

This really evolved with air over time...I'd say 90 on a pop 'n pour, 93 today. Keep this in the cellar for a while, or give it a very long decant.
Red
2010 Double Diamond (Schrader) Cabernet Sauvignon Amber Knolls Vineyard USA, California, North Coast, Red Hills Lake County
79 points
After seeing the other TNs, we had to try this...and are pretty much in agreement.

I've been on the Schrader flagship list since '06, and I've bought DD over the years because in the past I've enjoyed them. But this Amber Knolls is just blah, and after having the Double Diamond Bomber X vertical last week, I think I have a decent baseline; this one just doesn't have anything to it. I'm a bit disappointed as well. My reaction to this is "Meh, it's wine", which is my definition of a 79.

I get grape, and others who tried it noted peaches and nectarines, but I'm having trouble finding much else. This hits the palate and just trails off.......where is the rest of this wine? Even the slight tannins are blah...
Red
2006 Failla Pinot Noir Pearlessence USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
89 points
Definite Pinot funk to this, strawberry, cherry, plums. Ready to drink...I don't see this evolving more, but it's an enjoyable bottle.
Red
2010 Quivet Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley USA, California, Napa Valley
89 points
Another wine that reminds me of barrel tasting in Napa. Very youthful nose, definite primary flavors at this point, dark fruit, a grapefruity citrus, oak, toast...the tannins are big, a bit rough, young, and grippy. Needs some time to really show it's potential I think, and will probably tick up a couple points after a couple years in the bottle. Good enjoyable bottle now though with a longer decant, give it at least 6+ hours...89+
