Introduction

Another great night with the NY/NJ crew and a solid line-up of wines.

Flight 1 - White Wines (3 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Benoît Lahaye Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs Brut Prestige France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Notes of apple, orange zest, and tart red fruit. Delicate lively mouthfeel with finely textured bubbles. Medium long finish. Delicious.
White
2008 Domaine Latour-Giraud Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Canet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Initially a bit of funk, but it completely blew off very quickly. Nice aromatics in the nose showing notes of pear, apple and citrus. stony minerality on the palate. Smooth mouthfeel with medium high to high acidity.
White
2007 Domaine Huet Vouvray Sec Le Mont France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray
Honey, florals, and orange on the nose with similar notes on the palate. High ripe acidity. Medium to medium-full bodied with a medium long finish.

Flight 2 - Blind Tasting (1 note)

2010 Fratelli Brovia Barbera d'Alba Sorì del Drago Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba
Served blind. Medium ruby color in the glass. Old world nose showing red and blue fruit with hints of rubber, smoke and pyrazine. Additional notes of spice and black tea on the palate. Medium body, relatively low tannin and medium high acidity.

Flight 3 - Red Wines (10 notes)

1999 Chateau Musar Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
Aromatic profile is an interesting mix of cassis, tomato juice, pyrazine and earth. Medium to medium high acidity and tannin. Medium body and very well balanced.

2006 Provenance Vineyards Merlot Three Palms Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley
Rich, ripe black cherry and cassis on the nose mixed with significant vanilla and oak. Similar profile on the palate. Full-bodied with medium tannin and acid. Medium length finish.

2006 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Fontalloro Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
Red cherry and savory charred meat on the nose. Similar on the palate. Medium body with medium high to high tannin and acid. Very nice bottle of Sangiovese.

Medium ruby color in the glass. Complex nose with notes of black cherry, beef stock, scorched earth and spicy oak. Similar notes on the palte with high acidity and high tannins.

Pretty nose with notes or ripe red fruit, rose petals, spice and well-integrated oak. Medium body with high tannin and acid. Long finish. Really nice.

Huge aromatics of sweet, ripe cassis , vanilla, and toasted oak outsize the glass. Rich and full-bodied with a smooth mouthfeel and medium tannin and acid structure. Long finish.

2009 Sojourn Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District
Dark ruby color in the glass. Notes of cassis black cherry and vanilla. Full-bodied with medium structure.

2004 Domenico Clerico Barolo Pajana Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Beautiful notes on the palate showing red fruit, baking spice and well-integrated oak. Similar notes on the palate. A modern-styled barolo with medium body, high acidity and really high tannin, though it is tamed somewhat when paired with food.

2004 Château Pontet-Canet France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Ripe black cherry and cassis on the nose with some subtle pyrazine and a touch of toasted oak. Similar notes on the palate. Medium body, tannin and acid with a medium long finish. Nice, well-balanced wine.

Rich nose showing notes of dried fruit, prune and chocolate. Similar notes on the palate with medium high tannin and acid.

2008 Mas Amiel Maury Vintage France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Maury
Just a quick taste of this one. Chocolate with dirty leather and raspberry syrup. Kind of interesting actually.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2000 Château Pierre-Bise Coteaux du Layon-Beaulieu France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Coteaux du Layon-Beaulieu
flawed
Honey, rubber and oxidation, but after 16 other wines we drank it anyway.
White - Off-dry
1989 Domaine Mittnacht-Klack Gewurztraminer Vendanges Tardives France, Alsace
Delicious nose showing notes of honey, caramel and orange infused with baking spice. Similar on the palate. Well balanced and lightly sweet.
